Peer reviewedRindskopf, David – Psychometrika, 1992
A general approach is described for the analysis of categorical data when there are missing values on one or more observed variables. The method is based on generalized linear models with composite links. Situations in which the model can be used are described. (SLD)

Peer reviewedZielman, Berrie; Heiser, Willem J. – Psychometrika, 1993
An algorithm based on the majorization theory of J. de Leeuw and W. J. Heiser is presented for fitting the slide-vector model. It views the model as a constrained version of the unfolding model. A three-way variant is proposed, and two examples from market structure analysis are presented. (SLD)

Peer reviewedAnderson, Carolyn J. – Psychometrika, 1996
Generalizations of L. A. Goodman's RC(M) association model (1991 and earlier) are presented for three-way tables. These three-mode association models use L. R. Tucker's three-mode components model (1964, 1966) to represent the three-factor interaction or the combined effects of two- and three-factor interactions. (SLD)

PDF pending restorationHanson, Bradley A. – 1991
This paper presents a detailed derivation of method of moments estimates used in computer programs for the four-parameter beta compound binomial strong true score model. A procedure is presented to deal with the case in which the usual method of moments estimates do not exist or result in invalid parameter estimates. The results presented…

Sadek, Ramses F.; Huberty, Carl J. – 1992
Using computer simulation data, the effect of a single global outlier in two-group classification analysis was explored in terms of the outcome variables of change in classification results (PCHNG), change in misclassification rate (MISDIF), and change in precision of misclassification rate estimation. The precision of misclassification rate…

Peer reviewedHanson, Bradley A.; Brennan, Robert L. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
Using several data sets, the relative performance of the beta binomial model and two more general strong true score models in estimating several indices of classification consistency is examined. It appears that the beta binomial model can provide inadequate fits to raw score distributions compared to more general models. (TJH)

Peer reviewedSpray, Judith A.; Welch, Catherine J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
The effect of large, within-examinee item difficulty variability on estimates of the proportion of consistent classification of examinees into mastery categories was studied over 2 test administrations for 100 simulated examinees. The proportion of consistent classifications was adequately estimated using the technique proposed by M. Subkoviak…

Peer reviewedSchweizer, Karl – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
A mathematical formula is introduced for the effect of integrating data. A method is then derived to eliminate the effect from correlations of variables, including mean composites, thus allowing for a clustering algorithm that requires allocation of variables according to the magnitude of their correlations. Examples illustrate the procedure. (SLD)

Samejima, Fumiko – 1983
Some cognitive psychologists, who have tried to approach psychometric theories, say that the psychometric approach does not provide them with theories and methods with which they can deal with differential strategies. In this paper, a general latent trait model for differential strategies in cognitive processes is proposed which includes three…

Peer reviewedHuttenlocher, Janellen; And Others – Psychological Review, 1991
A model of category effects found in reports of episodic memory is proposed. The model holds that stimuli are presented at a fine-grain level of detail and a category. Four experiments involving a total of 131 University of Chicago (Illinois) students and faculty are reported in support of the model. (SLD)

Peer reviewedBockenholt, Ulf; Bockenholt, Ingo – Psychometrika, 1991
A reparameterization of a latent class model is presented to classify and scale nomial and ordered categorical choice data simultaneously. The model extension represents a nonhomogeneous population as a mixture of homogeneous subpopulations. Simulated data and data from a magazine preference survey of 347 college students illustrate the model.…

Phillips, Gary W. – 1983
Ways in which the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) can be used to perform some Rasch analyses are described in detail. It is shown how SPSS and a set of item calibrations can be used to estimate person abilities, standard errors of measurement, test characteristic curve, test information curve, classification consistency on a…
