Peer reviewedCraine, Timothy V. – Mathematics Teacher, 1996
Presents an alternate approach to teaching quadratics by fully integrating the study of quadratic equations and quadratic functions using graphs. Includes reproducible student worksheets. (MKR)
Descriptors: Algebra, Equations (Mathematics), Functions (Mathematics), Graphs
Peer reviewedLight, Peter – Mathematics in School, 1983
The usual methods for solving quadratic equations are noted to require either the use of numerical formula or curve plotting on graph paper. The method described here enables pupils to solve equations using only a 45 degree setsquare, graph paper, and a pencil for those which have both real roots and real coefficients. (Author/MP)
Descriptors: Equations (Mathematics), Graphs, Mathematical Concepts, Mathematics Education
Poon-Hang, Peter Lee – Creative Computing, 1982
A program designed to plot three-dimensional graphs is described and presented. The program allows the user to select maximum and minimum ranges for X, Y, and Z, and can enlarge a graph on the screen or look at a portion away from the origin. It is in Applesoft BASIC. (MP)

Peer reviewedWallace, Edward C. – Mathematics Teacher, 1988
This activity exposes beginning algebra students to the concepts of slope and intercept. Four worksheets pertain to the "electrician problem." (MNS)
Descriptors: Algebra, Equations (Mathematics), Functions (Mathematics), Graphs
Peer reviewedDisher, Fan – Mathematics Teacher, 1995
Presents an activity in which students draw a picture, analyze each line and curve, and write the symbolic equations represented by the graph. Includes reproducible student worksheets. (MKR)
Descriptors: Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Art, Equations (Mathematics)
Peer reviewedMercer, Joseph – Mathematics Teacher, 1995
Presents five lessons to demonstrate how graphing calculators can be used to teach the slope-intercept concept of linear equations and to establish more general principles about two-dimensional graphs. Contains a reproducible student quiz. (MKR)
Descriptors: Algebra, Equations (Mathematics), Graphing Calculators, Graphs
Brueggeman, Gail; Clendenin, Donna – 1998
The Rivers Project at Southern Illinois University began in February, 1990 as a pilot program involving eight high schools along the Mississippi and lower Illinois River. The Rivers Project network has grown through the training of teachers from across the United States and Canada. With scientific literacy as the ultimate goal, students collect…
Descriptors: Environmental Education, Equations (Mathematics), Graphs, High Schools
Peer reviewedKennedy, Jane B. – Mathematics Teacher, 1996
Presents activities in which students study exponential growth and decay by collecting data, constructing graphs, and discovering algebraic formulas. (MKR)
Descriptors: Algebra, Equations (Mathematics), Exponents (Mathematics), Graphs
Owens, Beverly; Mitchell, Amy; Walford, Sylvia – 1998
This teacher's guide and student guide are designed to accompany a general mathematics textbook that contains supplemental readings, activities, and methods adapted for secondary students who have disabilities and other students with diverse learning needs. The materials are designed to help these students succeed in regular education content…
