Ways in which the language laboratory may supplement classroom recitations of university students in the intermediate level of English as a foreign language at Bar Ilan University in Israel are presented here. Foreign students learning English often do not correct their own errors when working in the language laboratory. It appears that students fail to respond if the material to be processed, answered or repeated is either too long or cannot be interpreted. A repeat-loop tape system may answer some problems. (CHK)

A test was conducted with Japanese students learning English as a second language to determine the most effective language laboratory system. Three systems, two types of instant playback systems and one long delay playback, were compared. The instant playback methods facilitate learning more effectively than long-delay playback. (CHK)

Video programs have proven more successful for oral proficiency than traditional conversation in English language courses at Stockholm University. Video provides verbal and non-verbal forms of communication and a variety of life-like situations. It also raises students' attention and provides a model for students to imitate. (SC)
