Rosamaria Crisci; Umberto Dello Iacono; Eva Ferrara Dentice – Digital Experiences in Mathematics Education, 2024
This paper outlines the design and application of a didactic sequence aimed at facilitating primary students' understanding of axial symmetry, utilizing a combination of digital artefacts and paper tasks. We wondered to what extent the designed didactic sequence is able to make primary school students formulate and validate effective programming…

Peer reviewedReinke, Kathryn S. – School Science and Mathematics, 1997
Examines solution strategies used by elementary preservice teachers to find the perimeter and area of a shaded geometric figure. Investigates inadequacies in the mathematical backgrounds of these students as well as curriculum changes to make in teacher education programs. (Author/CCM)

Peer reviewedPegg, John; Davey, Geoff – Mathematics Education Research Journal, 1989
Written descriptions by students in grades 3-7 (n=274) of common 2-dimensional geometric shapes were examined to compare the level descriptors of the van Hiele Theory and the SOLO Taxonomy. Results indicate that descriptors associated with the SOLO Taxonomy more accurately describe the quality of student thinking. (MDH)

Heath, Penney – 1994
Two cases are described in which alternative assessments have been successfully employed in college mathematics. Case 1 describes an alternative assessment applied in a class of 10 elementary school teachers studying Euclidean geometry as required by state teacher-certification requirements. One student asserted that he already had an adequate…
