Ruqoyyah, Siti; Murni, Sukma; Wijaya, Tommy Tanu – Elementary School Forum (Mimbar Sekolah Dasar), 2020
This research is motivated by the low ability to understand mathematical concepts possessed by prospective elementary school teacher students. This study aims to see the achievement and improvement of students' mathematical understanding abilities that use Microsoft Excel-based VBA teaching materials with those using conventional learning. This…

Peer reviewedNason, Rod; And Others – Research in Science Education, 1996
Reports on a study in which a teacher used the collaborative development of a format-free computer database to facilitate the construction of knowledge by a group of students (n=3) during a science project. Results indicate that knowledge construction is enhanced when children collaboratively develop a format-free database. Contains 27 references.…

Peer reviewedClariana, Roy B. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1996
Considers the effects of an Integrated Learning System (ILS) on the mathematics test scores of elementary school children. Results indicate that ILS software had its greatest effect on mathematics concepts scores, which is contrary to the commonly held opinion that mathematics software is effective primarily in drill and practice of computational…

Peer reviewedClements, Douglas H.; And Others – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1997
Describes a study of third-grade students (N=38) that investigates the development of linear measurement concepts. Three levels of strategies were identified: visual guessing, hash marks, and no physical partitioning. Students who connected numeric and spatial representations proved to be the better problem solvers. Contains 22 reference. (DDR)

Where Do Fractions Encounter Their Equivalents?: Can This Encounter Take Place in Elementary-School?
Peer reviewedArnon, Ilana; Nesher, Pearla; Nirenburg, Renata – International Journal of Computers for Mathematical Learning, 2001
Describes computer software called Shemesh designed for learning equivalence-classes of fractions. Describes interviews with fifth-grade students who used the software in their learning activities. Evidence indicates initial actual development of desired mathematical concepts. (Author/MM)

Ozgun-Koca, S. Asli – 2001
This study investigated the effects on student understanding of linear relationships using the linked representation software VideoPoint as compared to using semi-linked representation software. It investigated students' attitudes towards and preferences for mathematical representations--equations, tables, or graphs. An Algebra I class was divided…

Peer reviewedRodrigues, Susan – Primary Science Review, 1997
Reports on a project in which children develop instructional technology skills while learning a great deal of science. Explains how children construct a multimedia presentation on the topic of invertebrates. (DDR)

1996
Zoo Zillions contains five activities for grades K-2: Annie's Jungle Trail, 3D Gallery, Number Line Express, Gnu Ewe Boutique, and Fish Stories. These activities enable children to review and practice basic mathematics skills; identify three-dimensional shapes, watch them in motion, and create their own three-dimensional designs; locate numbers…

Peer reviewedBattista, Michael T.; Clements, Douglas H. – Arithmetic Teacher, 1988
Shortcomings of current curricula for geometry in the elementary school are discussed. The use of the computer programing language Logo to develop geometric ideas is described, with supporting research. (MNS)
