This article reports on the 1989 first International Conference on the Postsecondary Education of Deaf Students held in Edmonton, Alberta, October 18-20, 1989. National perspectives and model programs from the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria, Australia, West Germany, and a Central American coalition are briefly noted. (PB)

The Language Lab was a pilot project which sought to develop communicative competence in deaf students with additional disabilities, through the use of the bilingual-bicultural approach and the whole language approach. This paper discusses goals of the Language Lab, classroom strategies, administration, and student evaluation. (Author/JDD)
