Deforeit, Huguette; And Others – Journal of Chemical Documentation, 1972
A computer system, named CORA, has been devised for coding chemical structures by fragmentation elements. It has been used to encode Markush formulas in patents according to the Ring codes used in the Ringdoc and Pestdoc services and results in an easy, speedy, reliable and inexpensive method. Martin, David – Journal of Documentation, 1972
Information and documentation have constituted one of the more fruitful fields for early applications of computer typesetting. This review pays particular attention to the reasons this is so, and to some of the major systems now in operation. (31 references) (Author/NH)

Frome, Julius – Journal of Chemical Documentation, 1972
A formula is given that enables one to determine the parameters for amortizing an information system within a year. The formula is illustrated with three mechanized information systems for patents. The most critical parameter is shown to be indexing time. (7 references) (Author/NH)

Kantor, Paul B.; Ng, Kwong Bor – Proceedings of the ASIS Annual Meeting, 1998
Categorizes different theoretical justifications of data fusion into two approaches, examines their implications, analyzes some unsuccessful data fusion experiments, and proposes two conditions for effective data fusion. Results indicate that the efficacy and inter-scheme dissimilarity are good predictors for effectiveness of data fusion.…

Mello, James F. – 1977
An outline of biological systematics and the kind of data that comprise it is presented, together with a description of one data convention used in systematics and a method for computerizing synonymic and associated data. Systematics consist of descriptions of species, names applied to these species, and supportive field data such as geographic…

Bosseau, Don, Ed. – Computerized Serials Systems Series, 1973
In 1961 the University of California at San Diego library began design of a computerized serials system with 700 entries. From this a sophisticated system has evolved (through three computers) with 30,810 serial entries in 1973. Using batch processing, the computer generates copies of a union list of university serials holdings, copies of serials…
