Gondek, Paul C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
This paper discusses considerations in the unwary use of packaged discriminant analysis procedures including: the differences between the "group classification function" and the textbook classification function in both form and use, classification table confusions and their alleviation, and the hazards of stepping procedures. (Author/BW)

Altman, Harold; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1976
The revisions applied to the linear discriminant functions (LDF's) for computerized psychiatric diagnosis are discussed in terms of a comparison of the LDF model with decision tree models. It is concluded that each model has its own advantages and disadvantages. (Author/DEP)

Nordlund, Daniel J.; Nagel, Rollin – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1991
Reasons/methods for standardizing discriminant function coefficients are reviewed, and use of the pooled within-groups variance estimate is examined. Use of total or pooled within-groups estimates can be justified only on purely mathematical grounds. Total variance estimates offer a more consistent and parsimonious approach than do pooled…

Whyte, Gregg Charles – Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, 1982
This study examines the relationship of selected academic characteristics of students to their success in a two-year college program in electronic data processing. Sample selection, procedures, and findings are described together with a discussion of the results. (Author/CT)

Lorentz, Jeffrey L. – 1978
The Carroll County (Georgia) Competency-Based Teacher Certification Project developed a measure of teacher effectiveness, the 341-item Georgia Assessment of Teacher Effectiveness, based upon five previously published classroom observation systems. Three concerns were drawn from the development of this instrument: (1) the reduction of observational…

O'DONNELL, BERNARD – 1966
THE PURPOSE OF THIS ANALYSIS WAS TO DISCOVER CERTAIN ASPECTS OF STYLE (BOTH LEXICAL AND GRAMMATICAL) WHICH COULD BE COUNTED AND WHICH WOULD, WHEN COMPARED, DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE WRITTEN PROSE OF TWO AUTHORS. THE SUBJECT SELECTED FOR ANALYSIS WAS "THE O'RUDDY," BEGUN BY STEPHEN CRANE AND COMPLETED BY ROBERT BARR. SINCE THERE WAS NO…

Hall, Charles E.; And Others – 1973
The VARAN (variance Analysis) program is an addition to a series of computer programs for multivariate analysis of variance. The development of VARAN exploits the full linear model. Analysis of variance, univariate and multivariate, is the program's main target. Correlation analysis of all types is available with printout in the vernacular of…

Tuckman, Bruce W. – 1972
Research is a useful tool for educators because of its ability to uncover causal relationships between variables that are often obscured in field investigations. This textbook presents basic methodological information that has been designed for and proven to assist the educator who seeks to move himself from the laboratory to the field. The book…
