Ramsay, J. O. – Psychometrika, 1975
Many data analysis problems in psychology may be posed conveniently in terms which place the parameters to be estimated on one side of an equation and an expression in these parameters on the other side. A rule for improving the rate of convergence of the iterative solution of such equations is developed and applied to four problems. (Author/RC)

Miller, Brent C.; Olson, David H. – 1976
The present study focuses on multiple dimensions of face-to-face marriage interaction as the basis for identifying patterns or "types" of couple relating. The research assumes that it is possible to classify marriage relationships by criteria which are objective enough to allow replication and concensus. Particular emphasis is placed on the…

Davison, Mark L.; And Others – Journal of Counseling & Development, 1986
Describes use of multidimensional scaling (MDS) in counseling. Discusses types of data that have been analyzed using MDS, kinds of MDS analyses, and the interpretation of MDS results. Reviews MDS research relevant to vocational, family, group, and individual counseling. Also discusses potential applications in counseling practice. (Author/ABB)

Levine, Joel H. – Psychometrika, 1979
Social and naturally occurring choice phenomena are often of the "pick any" type in which the number of choices made by a subject as well as the set of alternatives from which they are chosen is unconstrained. A model and scaling method for these data are introduced. (Author/JKS)

DeSarbo, Wayne S.; And Others – Psychometrika, 1992
TSCALE, a multidimensional scaling procedure based on the contrast model of A. Tversky for asymmetric three-way, two-mode proximity data, is presented. TSCALE conceptualizes a latent dimensional structure to describe the judgmental stimuli. A Monte Carlo analysis and two consumer psychology applications illustrate the procedure. (SLD)

Shepard, Roger N. – Psychometrika, 1974
Six major problems confronting attempts to use nonmetric multidimensional scaling to represent structures underlying similarity data are identified and the author's prospects for over-coming each of these problems are presented. (RC)

Carroll, Robert M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Examines the similarity between the coordinates which resulted when correlations were used as similarity measures and the factor loadings obtained by factor analyzing the same correlation matrix. Real data, a set of error free data, and some computer generated data containing deliberately introduced sampling error are analyzed. (RC)

Bressmann, Tim; Thind, Parveen; Uy, Catherine; Bollig, Carmen; Gilbert, Ralph W.; Irish, Jonathan C. – Clinical Linguistics & Phonetics, 2005
The functional determinants for a good speech outcome after a partial tongue resection and reconstruction are not well established. The purpose of the present study was to assess the protrusion, grooving and symmetry of the tongue during sustained speech sound production using three-dimensional ultrasound. The participants were twelve normal…

McKinley, Robert L.; Reckase, Mark D. – 1982
The usefulness of the general Rasch model for multidimensional data, from the most simple formulations to the more complex versions of the model, is explored. Also investigated was whether the parameters of the models could be readily interpreted. Models investigated included: (1) the vector model; (2) the product term model; (3) the vector and…

Gower, J. C. – Psychometrika, 1975
Concerned with another form of analysis of m sets of matrices, the Procrustes idea is generalized so that all m sets are simultaneously translated, rotated, reflected and scaled so that a goodness of fit criterion is optimised. A computational technique is given, results of which can be summarized in analysis of variance form. (RC)

Berven, Norman L.; Scofield, Michael E. – Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, 1982
Describes multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis and the type of problems they can help solve. Cites major literature sources concerning their use. Reviews applications of these methods in rehabilitation research. Discusses possible advantages of nonmetric data-reduction techniques over metric approaches, such as factor analysis. (Author)

Turner, Carol J.; Smith, Jeffrey K. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1982
Used aggregate ratings of teacher behavior as data for a multitrait-multimethod validity analysis. Scaled ratings using Rasch latent trait scaling model and traditional scaling techniques. Compared Rasch-scaled multitrait-multimethod matrix to the traditionally scaled multitrait-multimethod matrix. Results showed Rasch scaling resulted in higher…

Hyde, Toni; Kirkland, John; Bimler, David; Pechtel, Pia – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 2005
The current study integrates descriptive (though primarily social-psychological) statements about youth suicide into a coherent, empirically supported taxonomy. Drawing from relevant literature, a set of 107 items characterizing these contributions about youth suicide was created. Seventy-two participants sorted these statements according to their…
