Rundus, Dewey – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1977
A description of a series of six experiments dealing with human memory processes. They examined the types of codes generated in maintenance rehearsal and the effects of rehearsal time at various single levels of encoding. Data confirmed earlier findings and led to conclusions regarding repetition, encoding and levels of processing. (AMH)

Brown, Ann L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1973
These data have important implications for both theories of memory in general and for theories of retardate memory in particular. (Author)

Peer reviewedThomas, Jerry R.; And Others – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1983
Two experiments were conducted to investigate how children remember distance and location of landmarks in a large-scale environment. The effects of cueing and suggesting a step-counting strategy on four- and nine-year-old children's ability to recall events on a jogging course were explored. (Author/PP)

Peer reviewedMelkman, Rachel; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1981
A grouping task revealed a chronological progression: color and form determined the 4-year-old children's grouping about equally; form dominated in the 5-year-olds; and 9-year-olds grouped primarily by conceptual attributes. Performance on a memory task showed the developmental shift from color to form to concept, while cued recall showed…

Peer reviewedWeiland, Andrea; Kingsbury, Steven J. – Journal of Educational Research, 1979
Statistical analysis indicates that a note-taking group performed significantly better overall than a no-notes group on both an immediate and a delayed quiz although both groups showed a significant decline in performance in the latter quiz. (JMF)

Peer reviewedFagen, Jeffrey – Child Development, 1997
Trained 3-month olds to move an overhead crib mobile while one of two musical selections was played, and assessed retention one or seven days later in presence of same or different music. Found that infants displayed one-day retention regardless of musical selection. At seven days, retention was seen only when test music matched training music.…

Peer reviewedBourgeois, Michelle S.; Camp, Crmeron; Rose, Miriam; White, Blanche; Malone, Megan; Carr, Jaime; Rovine, Michael – Journal of Communication Disorders, 2003
This study compared the effectiveness of spaced retrieval (SR) and a modified cueing hierarchy (CH), for teaching persons with dementia a strategy goal involving an external memory aid. Training of 25 persons with dementia found that the SR procedures resulted in significantly more goals being attained and maintained at both 1-week and 4-months…

Peer reviewedLorsbach, Thomas C.; Worman, Linda J. – Contemporary Educational Psychology, 1990
A traditional cued recall task and an item recognition priming paradigm were used to assess the locus of associative memory difficulties in learning-disabled children. Results for 24 learning-disabled and 24 nondisabled sixth graders are discussed within the explicit and implicit memory framework of P. Graf and D. L. Schacter (1985). (TJH)

Peer reviewedBackman, Lars; Mantyla, Timo – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1988
Younger (N=24) and older subjects (N=24) generated one or three properties to set of 40 nouns. Subjects received incidental recall test immediately after, 1 week after, or 3 weeks after generation. Younger subjects recalled more nouns than did older subjects in all conditions, although both age groups exhibited high immediate recall. (Author/ ABL)

Peer reviewedBoller, Kimberly; Rovee-Collier, Carolyn – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1992
Six-month-old infants recognize a cue 24 hours after training in the original context but not in a different one. It is demonstrated that this retrieval deficit could be overcome if infants are briefly and passively exposed to a novel context. Concludes that each training episode is encoded in terms of the context in which it occurs. Contains 48…

Peer reviewedGordon, Peter C.; And Others – Cognitive Psychology, 1993
Four experiments involving 42 Harvard University students and 35 subjects addressing the role of attention in phonetic perception demonstrate that attention influences the signal-to-noise ratio in the phonetic encoding of acoustic cues. Implications for understanding speech perception and general theories of the role of attention in perception are…
