King, Jason E. – 1997
Theoretical hypotheses generated from data analysis of a single sample should not be advanced until the replicability issue is treated. At least one of three questions usually arises when evaluating the invariance of results obtained from a canonical correlation analysis (CCA): (1) "Will an effect occur in subsequent studies?"; (2)…

Capraro, Robert M. – 2000
Canonical correlation analysis is the most general linear model subsuming all other univariate and multivariate cases (N. Kerlinger & E. Pedhazur, 1973; B. Thompson, 1985, 1991). Because "reality" is a complex place, a multivariate analysis such as canonical correlation analysis is demanded to match the research design. The purpose…

Thorndike, Robert M.; Weiss, David J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1983
Three potential applications of stepwise procedures in canonical analysis and several alternative stepping decision rules are described. Results of an empirical investigation of the procedures indicated that more parsimonious approaches to maintaining variables held up better under cross-validation. (Author/JKS)

Dong, Hei-Ki; Thomasson, Gary L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The triangular decomposition method is suggested as a general technique for obtaining the various measures of an ill-conditioned matrix. The advantages of using triangular decomposition are computing nicety, cost, and parsimony. (Author/PN)

Tyler, David E. – Psychometrika, 1982
The index of redundancy is a measure of association between a set of independent variables and a set of dependent variables. Properties and interpretations of redundancy variables, in a particular subset of the original variables, are discussed. (JKS)

Johansson, J. K. – Psychometrika, 1981
An extension of Wollenberg's redundancy analysis (an alternative to canonical correlation) is proposed to derive Y-variates corresponding to the optimal X-variates. These variates are maximally correlated with the given X-variates, and depending upon the standardization chosen they also have certain properties of orthogonality. (Author/JKS)

ten Berge, Jos M. F. – Psychometrika, 1988
A summary and a unified treatment of fully general computational solutions for two criteria for transforming two or more matrices to maximal agreement are provided. The two criteria--Maxdiff and Maxbet--have applications in the rotation of factor loading or configuration matrices to maximal agreement and the canonical correlation problem. (SLD)

Thomas, D. Roland; Decady, Yves J. – International Journal of Testing, 2004
This article discusses approximate tests of marginal association in 2-way tables in which one or both response variables admit multiple responses. Although multiple-response questions appear in all fields of research, including sociology, education, and marketing, the development of association tests that can be used with multiple-response data is…

Rosenthal, James A. – Springer, 2011
Written by a social worker for social work students, this is a nuts and bolts guide to statistics that presents complex calculations and concepts in clear, easy-to-understand language. It includes numerous examples, data sets, and issues that students will encounter in social work practice. The first section introduces basic concepts and terms to…

Seco, Guillermo Vallejo; Gras, Jaime Arnau; Garcia, Manuel Ato – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2007
This study evaluated the robustness of two recent methods for analyzing multivariate repeated measures when the assumptions of covariance homogeneity and multivariate normality are violated. Specifically, the authors' work compares the performance of the modified Brown-Forsythe (MBF) procedure and the mixed-model procedure adjusted by the…

Runeson, Sverker; Andersson, Isabell E. K. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2007
Participants' usage of informational variables in learning visual relative-mass discrimination in collisions was tracked by means of PROBIT correlations. Four groups received feedback that was true or accorded with either of three nonspecificational cue variables. A majority in each group adopted the feedback, but several participants defied the…

Li, Qing – International Electronic Journal for Leadership in Learning, 2008
The objectives of this paper are twofold. First, a research model, namely, Model for the Study of Bullying and Other School Violence, is proposed, outlined, and delineated, arguing that this model is theoretically grounded and empirically validated by reviewing the related literature. In this model, five major components are proposed that are…

Welch, Ronald D.; Mellberg, Kimberlee – Christian Higher Education, 2008
Spiritual maturation processes of internalization and questing were assessed at a Christian university to determine their relationship to year in school and certain religious behaviors. This was a first step toward the development of a new model of Christian higher education that will intentionally facilitate spiritual maturation. A group of 179…

Fish, Angela M.; Li, Xiaoming; McCarrick, Katy; Butler, Sheretta T.; Stanton, Bonita; Brumitt, Gail A.; Bhavnagri, Navaz Peshotan; Holtrop, Teresa; Partridge, Ty – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 2008
This study investigates the association between home computer experience and cognitive development among preschool children in inner-city Head Start programs. Approximately 200 children enrolled in four Head Start centers in Detroit, Michigan were recruited to participate in this study. Data was collected from parents regarding the children's…

Haugen, Richard; Lund, Thorleif; Ommundsen, Yngvar – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 2008
The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between attribution and selected personality dispositions, as well as self-serving attribution. Four hypotheses were formulated: (1) Attributions for positive events correlate differently with the five personality dispositions than attributions for negative events, (2) factor analysis and…
