Wang, Chao; Lu, Hong – Educational Technology & Society, 2018
This study focused on the effect of examinees' ability levels on the relationship between Reflective-Impulsive (RI) cognitive style and item response time in computerized adaptive testing (CAT). The total of 56 students majoring in Educational Technology from Shandong Normal University participated in this study, and their RI cognitive styles were…

Yildirim, Huseyin H.; Yildirim, Selda – Hacettepe University Journal of Education, 2011
Multivariate matching in Differential Item Functioning (DIF) analyses may contribute to understand the sources of DIF. In this context, detecting appropriate additional matching variables is a crucial issue. This present article argues that the variables which are correlated with communalities in item difficulties can be used as an additional…

Actuarial Foundation, 2012
The purpose of these modules is to provide an introduction to the world of probability and statistics to accelerated mathematics students at the high school level. The materials are centered on the fictional town of Happy Shores, a coastal community which is at risk for hurricanes. Actuaries at an insurance company figure out the risks and…

Nadarajah, Saralees; Kotz, Samuel – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science & Technology, 2006
A truncated version of the Cauchy distribution is introduced. Unlike the Cauchy distribution, this possesses finite moments of all orders and could therefore be a better model for certain practical situations. One such situation in finance is discussed. Explicit expressions for the moments of the truncated distribution are also derived.

Brookes, Bertram C.; Griffiths, Jose M. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1978
Frequency, rank, and frequency rank distributions are defined. Extensive discussion on several aspects of frequency rank distributions includes the Poisson process as a means of exploring the stability of ranks; the correlation of frequency rank distributions; and the transfer coefficient, a new measure in frequency rank distribution. (MBR)

Davenport, Ernest C., Jr.; El-Sanhurry, Nader A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
The phimax adjustment to phi (Pearson's product moment correlation applied to binary data) is explored. Phi/phimax is shown to be a measure of relationship apart from its affiliation with phi. The relations between phi/phimax and kappa and limitations of phi/phimax are discussed. (SLD)

Ellett, Frederick S., Jr.; Ericson, David P. – 1983
Several steps are taken to develop methods for analyzing systems that involve probabilistic causation. The basic ideas and distinctions are illustrated for systems with dichotomous variables. It is shown that these basic ideas have analogous counterparts in causal systems with continuous variables. By using a generalized conditional probability…

Werts, Charles E.; And Others – 1971
To resolve a recent controversy between Klein and Cleary and Levy, a model for dichotomous congeneric items is presented which has mean errors of zero, dichotomous true scores that are uncorrelated with errors, and errors that are mutually uncorrelated. (Author)
Descriptors: Correlation, Hypothesis Testing, Mathematical Models, Mathematics

Groen, Guy J. – Psychometrika, 1971
The problem of whether a precise connection exists between the stochastic processes considered in mathematical learning theory and the Guttman simplex is investigated. The approach used is to derive a set of conditions which a probabilistic model must satisfy in order to generate inter-trial correlations with the perfect simplex property.…

Baker, Frank B. – Review of Educational Research, 1977
Recent advances in item analysis have provided greater capabilities for the analysis of tests, but have also significantly increased the gap between the theory and practice of item analysis. This paper traces the lines of development in item analysis under latent trait theory. (MV)

Zimmerman, Donald W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1976
Using the concepts of conditional probability, conditional expectation, and conditional independence, the main results of the classical test theory model can be derived in a very few steps with minimal assumptions. The present effort explores the possibility that present classical test theories can be further condensed. (Author/RC)

Uebersax, John; Grove, Will – 1989
Methods of probability modeling to analyze rater agreement are described, emphasizing their basic similarities and viewing them as variants of a common methodology. Statistical techniques for analyzing agreement data are described to address questions such as how many opinions are required to make a medical diagnosis with necessary accuracy. Kappa…

Wilcox, Rand R. – 1979
Three separate papers are included in this report. The first describes a two-stage procedure for choosing from among several instructional programs the one which maximizes the probability of passing the test. The second gives the exact sample sizes required to determine whether a squared multiple correlation coefficient is above or below a known…

Schulman, Robert S. – Psychometrika, 1979
An alternative to the uniform probability distribution model for ordinal data is considered. Implications for statistics and for test theory are discussed. (JKS)

Tucker, Ledyard R.; And Others – 1970
Three topics in factor analysis are covered: a) a reliability coefficient for assessing the quality of a maximum likelihood factor analysis, b) an application of three-mode factor analysis to serial learning data, showing variations in learning curves over stages of learning and individuals, and c) the use of personal probability functions to…
