Peer reviewedRovine, Michael J.; Molenaar, Peter C. M. – Structural Equation Modeling, 1998
Presents a LISREL model for the estimation of the repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) with a patterned covariance matrix. The model is demonstrated for a 5 x 2 (Time x Group) ANOVA in which the data are assumed to be serially correlated. Similarities with the Statistical Analysis System PROC MIXED model are discussed. (SLD)

Peer reviewedHaase, Richard F.; Juster, Harlan R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Structural equation models require formidable computational techniques. Testing the goodness of fit involves discrepancies between original correlations among variables and correlations estimated by solved path coefficients. A BASIC computer program which solves these problems is presented and discussed. (Author/GDC)

Peer reviewedDelaney, Harold D.; Maxwell, Scott E. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1981
The use of analysis of covariance in conjunction with the multivariate approach to analyzing repeated measures designs is considered for designs involving between- and within-subject factors, one dependent variable, and one observation per subject on the covariate. (Author/RL)

Peer reviewedVooijs, Marcel W.; Van der Kamp, Leo J. T. – Evaluation Review, 1991
A two-step procedure is developed for the analysis of pretest-posttest data. Nonlinear canonical correlation analysis is followed by covariance analysis of optimally scaled pretest and posttest measures. The procedure is available in the computer program CANALS. Advantages of the two-step procedure are discussed. (SLD)

Werts, Charles E.; And Others – 1971
A variety of path models involving unmeasured variables are formulated in terms of Joreskog's general model for the analysis of covariance structures. (Author)

Borich, Gary D. – 1971
Methods exist for testing the homogeneity of group regression for the case in which there is only one predictor. Studies which have investigated aptitude-treatment interactions have adopted the homogeneity of regressions test as standard methodology for assessing the difference in regression slopes across treatments. Additional statistical…

Peer reviewedBentler, P. M.; Lee, Sik-Yum – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1983
A method for the estimation of covariance structure models under polynomial constraints (such as quadratic constraints) is presented. Estimation is on maximum likelihood principles, and the test statistics, parameter estimates, and standard errors are based on a statistical theory which takes the constraints into account. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedLee, S. Y.; Jennrich, R. I. – Psychometrika, 1979
A variety of algorithms for analyzing covariance structures are considered. Additionally, two methods of estimation, maximum likelihood, and weighted least squares are considered. Comparisons are made between these algorithms and factor analysis. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedvan den Bergh, Huub; Eiting, Mindert H. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1989
A method of assessing rater reliability via a design of overlapping rater teams is presented. Covariances or correlations of ratings can be analyzed with LISREL models. Models in which the rater reliabilities are congeneric, tau-equivalent, or parallel can be tested. Two examples based on essay ratings are presented. (TJH)

Conklin, Jonathan E.; Burstein, Leigh – 1979
Educational outcomes are affected by student level, classroom level, and school level characteristics. The fact that educational data are multilevel in nature poses serious analysis questions. Though strong arguments can be made for focusing on a single level of analysis, such studies have several basic limitations: the choice of analytic level…

Pruzek, Robert M. – 1971
Guttman's "rank-reduction" theorem is employed to demonstrate how most of the algebra and computational work for standard correlational and analysis of variance methods can be examined within a single matrix system. Analyses of both correlational and experimental data are illustrated with an easy-to-use computer program. This application…

Peer reviewedWalberg, Herbert J. – American Educational Research Journal, 1971
Similarities between regression analysis and analysis of variance are noted and it is argued that the former has advantages over the latter. It is also argued that canonical correlation analysis is more suitable than factor analysis in certain cases. The argument is illustrated with four recent pieces of educational research. (DG)

Peer reviewedHakstian, A. Ralph; And Others – Psychometrika, 1989
Four measurement designs are presented for use with correlation coefficients corrected, in one variable, for attenuation due to unreliability (partially disattenuated). Associated asymptotic variance/covariance expressions are presented. Empirical simulation results illustrate the satisfactory Type I error control and statistical power of the…

Peer reviewedMalgady, Robert G.; Colon-Malgady, Gerardita – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
The reliability of residual scores created in the analysis of covariance in pretest-posttest designs, adjusted for a singe covariate, is compared with that of simple difference scores as relevant parameters vary. Little gain in reliability is created by analysis of covariance, which also suffers from reliability problems. (SLD)

Werts, Charles E.; And Others – 1971
The logical structure of the Campbell and Fiske multitrait-multimethod approach is applied to the problem of studying growth and its determinants. The resulting model is a special case of Joreskog's general model for the analysis of covariance structures. The relationships of traditional psychometric formulations to this model are detailed.…
