Peer reviewedEberly, Charles G.; Cech, Eugene J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1986
Discusses practical uses, potential problem areas, and ethical issues of microcomputer technology integrated into counseling. Makes several suggestions for software development. (Author/ABB)

Peer reviewedHiscox, Michael D. – Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, 1985
While there is much enthusiasm about the potential of microcomputers in test development and item banking, testing specialists have no interest in actually purchasing a turnkey test construction system. Focusing development efforts on providing methods to assist test directors, rather than external systems which replace institutionalized…

Peer reviewedPusack, James P. – Foreign Language Annals, 1984
Discusses David Wyatt's paper, "Computer-Assisted Teaching and testing of reading and Listening," focusing on the interactive computer testing of reading proficiency. Makes suggestions for the shape of an interactive diagnostic reading test and discusses software development and on-site delivery mechanisms of the tests. (SED)

Peer reviewedReise, Steve P.; Yu, Jiayuan – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
Parameter recovery in the graded-response model was investigated using the MULTILOG computer program under default conditions. Results from 36 simulated data sets suggest that at least 500 examinees are needed to achieve adequate calibration under the graded model. Sample size had little influence on the true ability parameter's recovery. (SLD)

Jodoin, Michael G.; Zenisky, April; Hambleton, Ronald K. – Applied Measurement in Education, 2006
Many credentialing agencies today are either administering their examinations by computer or are likely to be doing so in the coming years. Unfortunately, although several promising computer-based test designs are available, little is known about how well they function in examination settings. The goal of this study was to compare fixed-length…

Kaburlasos, Vassilis G.; Marinagi, Catherine C.; Tsoukalas, Vassilis Th. – Computers & Education, 2008
This work presents innovative cybernetics (feedback) techniques based on Bayesian statistics for drawing questions from an Item Bank towards personalized multi-student improvement. A novel software tool, namely "Module for Adaptive Assessment of Students" (or, "MAAS" for short), implements the proposed (feedback) techniques. In conclusion, a pilot…

Madhyastha, Tara M.; Tanimoto, Steven – International Working Group on Educational Data Mining, 2009
Most of the emphasis on mining online assessment logs has been to identify content-specific errors. However, the pattern of general "consistency" is domain independent, strongly related to performance, and can itself be a target of educational data mining. We demonstrate that simple consistency indicators are related to student outcomes,…

McPherson, Douglas – Interactive Technology and Smart Education, 2009
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to describe how and why Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) has developed a system aiming to effectively place students in freshman and developmental English programs. The placement system includes: triangulating data from external test scores, with scores from a panel-marked hand-written essay (HWE),…

Graham, Charles R.; Tripp, Tonya; Wentworth, Nancy – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 2009
This study explores the efforts at Brigham Young University to improve preservice candidates' technology integration using the Teacher Work Sample (TWS) as an assessment tool. Baseline data that was analyzed from 95 TWSs indicated that students were predominantly using technology for productivity and information presentation purposes even though…

Bennett, Kristin Redington; Cunningham, Ann C. – Journal of Computing in Teacher Education, 2009
Appropriate classroom assessment now tends to utilize formative measures with greater frequency, especially in the early grades and with learner groups at risk of not passing state-mandated standardized tests. Within the authentic context of an action research project, teacher candidates were given handheld computers equipped with data-collection…
