Evaluation of a Computer-Based Course Management System. Final Report.
Crawford, Alice M., Ed.; And Others
This project evaluated a Course Management System (CMS), which was developed at the University of Illinois and implemented on the PLATO IV instructional system during two semesters of an introductory level economics course. The CMS was designed to integrate books, computer testing, and personnel utilization in applying instructional and computer technology to the management of large-scale instruction, while minimizing online computer use and costs, and materials preparation costs. The performance of the experimental and control groups on the final examination and the responses to a questionnaire measuring attitude provided the primary bases for evaluating the effectiveness and adequacy of the CMS. Results of these measures are discussed, and recommendations are offered for the individualization of computer managed standard courses. (Author/RAO)
