Wager, Walter – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1981
This review of four different computer-assisted instruction algorithms concludes that current authoring guides are more concerned with "user orientation" than with instructional principles, and advocates the application of a design model based on Gagne's information processing model of instruction. Nine references are listed. (MER)

Branson, Robert K.; Foster, Richard W. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1979
Required features of random access videodiscs are presented in the context of potential applications, and four classes of possible systems are described. The implications of these features for courseware design are discussed. Communication with hardware manufacturers is encouraged. (Author/JEG)

Otte, Richard B. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1978
Discusses some of the problems faced by educators and systems developers in developing and implementing effective technological systems for the instruction, administration, and management of education on a broad scale. (Author/JEG)

Kontos, George – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1985
Investigates alternative methods of developing computer assisted instruction (CAI) lessons and concludes that a team effort of experienced educators and highly skilled computer professionals is essential for production of "better" CAI lessons. A model illustrating such a team effort for CAI development is presented and analyzed.…

Schloss, Patrick J.; Schloss, Cynthia N. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1986
Discusses four major elements of computer assisted instruction (CAI) program (instructional objectives; presentation, interaction, feedback); describes attributional consistency, which involves developing CAI programs so each major element has a common topography (e.g., to discriminate, describe, demonstrate, depict graphically); and presents…

Li, Qing – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 2002
Develops a simple tool to measure interactive learning in the context of computer-mediated communication (CMC). Describes the Measure of Interactivity in CMC (MICMC) and examines the reliability and validity of this measure. Subjects were fifth- and sixth-grade students in an inner city elementary school. Data analysis indicates MICMC is a useful…

Alessi, Stephen M.; And Others – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1982
Discusses the content and structure of a computer-based instructional program in reading for disadvantaged adults and describes the design, test materials, procedures, and results of a formative evaluation with 36 pre-GED students in an Illinois Correctional Center. Results support the value of such complete computer-based reading comprehension…

Sims-Knight, Judith E. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1989
Discusses the need to consider the cognitive models of students and their learning processes when designing computer tutorials, and describes a tutorial designed to teach students how to generate algebraic equations for story problems. Testing and revisions of the tutorial, with both college and high school students are described. (14 references)…

Hodes, Carol L. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1998
Offers faculty a systematic way to implement technology/print combinations relative to distance learners' needs and backgrounds. Categorizes types of learner interactions, and discusses the relevance of the entry-level knowledge of the learner to appropriate technology selection. (AEF)

Cantor, Jeffrey A. – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 1989
Describes a four-phased process used by the U.S. Navy for the systematic design and development of interactive videodisc (IVD) courseware (ICW) used for training. Highlights include analyzing job/task data; system design and development, including training objectives, simulations, procedural path analysis, and feedback strategies; and evaluation…
