Koffler, Stephen L. – 1976
The power of the classical Linear Discriminant Function (LDF) is compared, using Monte Carlo techniques with five other procedures for classifying observations from certain non-normal distributions. The alternative procedures considered are the Quadratic Discriminant Function, a Nearest Neighbor Procedure with Probability Blocks, and three density…

Peer reviewedTague, Jean; Ajiferuke, Isola – Journal of Documentation, 1987
Two models of library circulation, the Markov model and the mixed Poisson Model, are applied to circulation statistics from the University of Saskatchewan. Goodness-of-fit tests indicate that neither model fits the data; in both cases, the set of noncirculating items is larger than that predicted by the model. (Author/LRW)

Peer reviewedBouazza, A.; Nimer, R. – International Library Review, 1986
This article examines the state of development of library education in Jordan and Tunisia and pinpoints problems affecting this development in order to verify if library education in countries with similar cultures and type of economy evolves similarly and faces same problems. A brief introduction to the countries is provided. (EJS)

Cowen, Paul S. – Educational Communication and Technology: A Journal of Theory, Research, and Development, 1984
Describes a study which compared film and written material with regard to effects produced by order in which conflicting information is presented. Results indicate film is more influential and better recalled than conflicting written information: conflicting paragraphs produce a primacy effect, whereas analogous film segments produce no order…

Pittman, Vicki; Gahungu, Athanase – Online Submission, 2006
The purpose of this study was to examine the difference in effectiveness between comprehensive sexuality abstinence-based education and abstinence-only education. A survey was developed and distributed to over 140 individuals via a variety of sources such as: (1) the researcher's e-mail lists; (2) a group of City Core/City Year volunteers; (3) a…

Sellbom, Martin; Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; McNulty, John L.; Arbisi, Paul A.; Graham, John R. – Assessment, 2006
The frequency, origin, and interpretative implications of elevation differences on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) clinical and restructured clinical (RC) scales were examined. Two large clinical samples consisting of 1,770 outpatients and 2,438 inpatients were used for this study. Three potential factors…

Salden, Ron J. C. M.; Paas, Fred; van Merrienboer, Jeroen J. G. – Learning and Instruction, 2006
The differential effects of four task selection methods on training efficiency and transfer in a computer-based training for Air Traffic Control were investigated. Two personalised conditions were compared with two corresponding yoked control conditions. The hypothesis that personalised adaptive task selection leads to more efficient training than…

Jones, Paul; Gloeckner, Gene – Journal of College Admission, 2004
The purpose of this study was to determine differences, in first-year college academic performance, between home school and traditional high school graduates, measured by grade point average, retention, ACT test scores, and credits. To accomplish the purpose, nine null hypotheses were tested to determine if there were differences between home…

Gray, Wayne D.; Sims, Chris R.; Fu, Wai-Tat; Schoelles, Michael J. – Psychological Review, 2006
Soft constraints hypothesis (SCH) is a rational analysis approach that holds that the mixture of perceptual-motor and cognitive resources allocated for interactive behavior is adjusted based on temporal cost-benefit tradeoffs. Alternative approaches maintain that cognitive resources are in some sense protected or conserved in that greater amounts…

Greer, Tawanda M.; Chwalisz, Kathleen – Journal of College Student Development, 2007
This study is an investigation of stress and coping among African American students at a predominantly White college/university (PWCU) and a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) and their relationship to academic performance. Participants were 203 African American students (101 from a mid-size predominantly White midwestern state…

Selvadurai, Ranjani H. – 1986
The purpose of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate an audiotape and accompanying handouts on hemodynamics as a supplemental teaching aid in the Health Science Learning Center of New York City Technical College. It was hypothesized that there would be a significant difference between the mean examination grade on hemodynamics of…

Porter, Andrew C.; McSweeney, Maryellen – 1974
A Monte Carlo technique was used to investigate the small sample goodness of fit and statistical power of several nonparametric tests and their parametric analogues when applied to data which violate parametric assumptions. The motivation was to facilitate choice among three designs, simple random assignment with and without a concomitant variable…

Damm, John T.; Bloxom, Anne – 1971
The effects of two social contexts on the risk -taking behavior of elementary boys on a shuffleboard task were investigated. It was predicted that Atkinson's motive-probability-incentive (M-P-I) model would be supported in the peer-competitive context, in that the success-oriented subjects would choose more goals with median Ps values than the…
