Barre, V.; Choquet, C.; El-Kechai, H. – Journal of Interactive Learning Research, 2007
The underlying aim of the work related in this article, was to define Design Patterns for recording and analyzing usage in learning systems. The implied "bottom-up" approach when defining a Design Pattern brought us to examine data collected in our learning system through different lights: (1) the data type, (2) the human roles involved…

Cornish, Richard D. – 1971
The MMPI continues to be the focus of a large quantity of research. This article offers an aid to persons working with college student populations by annotating recent MMPI research relating to college populations. A total of 49 articles (each categorized in terms of content into one of 10 sections or subsections) were annotated. The Validity of…

Peer reviewedSchlesinger, Stephen E. – Crime and Delinquency, 1978
This study investigates the application of predictor variables identified by nine previous studies and by staff members of a family court and its psychiatric clinic to clinical predictions of dangerousness. The records of 122 juveniles were studied. No significant relationships were found. (Author)
Descriptors: Antisocial Behavior, Behavior Patterns, Comparative Analysis, Delinquency
Peer reviewedGuthrie, John T. – Journal of Educational Research, 1972
Results of stepwise regression analyses of text characteristics on learning scores revealed that the same characteristics which predict comprehension also predict new learning. (Author/MB)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Grade 6, Learning Processes, Multiple Regression Analysis
Peer reviewedArmstrong, David F.; Nunley, Charlene Wenckowski – Journal of Higher Education, 1981
Two methods used to predict enrollment at Montgomery College in Maryland are compared and evaluated, and the administrative context in which they are used is considered. The two methods involve time series analysis (curve fitting) and indicator techniques (yield from components). (MSE)

Peer reviewedWorthington, Everett L., Jr.; Dolliver, Robert H. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1977
Concurrent validity of the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII) and predictive validity of the Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) were studied in an 18-year follow-up of a university counseling center group of male college graduate subjects. The SCII had concurrent validity greater than the SVIB. (Author)

Peer reviewedLarson, Gerald E.; Alderton, David L. – Intelligence, 1990
To clarify the relationships between reaction time (RT) variability and intelligence, RT distributions from 303 male Navy recruits were partitioned into 16 fast-to-slow latency bands calculated with measures of mental ability. The slowest bands (worst trials) were the best predictors of intelligence and working memory performance. (SLD)

Peer reviewedKing, Suzanne – American Annals of the Deaf, 1990
Two causal models of career development differing in inclusion or noninclusion of variables unique to the experience of the hearing impaired were compared for their ability to explain variance in career maturity, with data from 71 hearing-impaired adolescents. Results suggest neither model is more powerful in explaining career maturity variance.…

Peer reviewedBurrell, Quentin L. – Journal of Documentation, 1989
Discussion of bibliometrics focuses on methods of predicting the number of new journals carrying relevant articles in the future, using both established parametric approaches and newer empirical methods. Parametric models and empirical Bayes models are used to compare examples using previous bibliographies compiled by Bradford and Kendall. (13…

Peer reviewedGreenblatt, Richard L.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
The diagnostic accuracy of nonadjusted and bootstrapped diagnosis was compared using a sample of 1,455 psychiatric patients who completed the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory. The usefulness of bootstrapping depended on the criteria for accuracy. Conditions under which bootstrapping might increase diagnostic accuracy are detailed. (SLD)

Vehrs, Pat R.; George, James D.; Fellingham, Gilbert W.; Plowman, Sharon A.; Dustman-Allen, Kymberli – Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science, 2007
This study was designed to develop a single-stage submaximal treadmill jogging (TMJ) test to predict VO[subscript 2]max in fit adults. Participants (N = 400; men = 250 and women = 150), ages 18 to 40 years, successfully completed a maximal graded exercise test (GXT) at 1 of 3 laboratories to determine VO[subscript 2]max. The TMJ test was completed…

Morash, Merry; Moon, Byongook – Youth & Society, 2007
General strain theory (GST) was tested as an explanation of violent and status offense delinquency of South Korean girls and boys. One research objective was to determine whether Korean girls and boys differed in their experience of each type of strain and in the levels of conditioning effects that might moderate the connections of strain to…

Robinson, Susan Smith – 1990
A longitudinal study determined if children's invented spelling served as a viable predictor of reading achievement and compared the predictive value of assessing children's invented spelling relative to other notable predictors, such as letter names, letter sounds, a concept of a word, and phonemic awareness. Subjects, 52 kindergarten children…

MUELLER, MAX W. – 1965
AN INVESTIGATION OF THE VALIDITY OF INTELLIGENCE AND OTHER TESTS USED IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF RETARDED CHILDREN WAS PERFORMED. EXPERIMENTAL SAMPLES CONSISTED OF 101 CHILDREN SELECTED FROM SPECIAL CLASSES FOR EDUCABLE MENTALLY RETARDED (EMR) WHOSE AGES RANGED FROM 6.9 TO 10 YEARS AND WHOSE IQ SCORES RANGED FROM 50 TO 80. THE TESTS EVALUATED WERE (1)…

Fleishman, Allen I. – 1978
A Monte Carlo study was performed to test under what conditions and to what degree various alternatives would be superior to multiple linear regression (MLR). The criteria used was the mean squared error of prediction of individual scores and the mean squared error of estimation of the regression weights. Populations were simulated containing…
