Peer reviewedGonzalez, Gerardo M.; And Others – Computers in Human Behavior, 1995
Describes a pilot study that tested a Macintosh computerized speech version and a paper-and-pencil version of the Center for Epidemiological Studies--Depression scale for screening adult depression symptoms. Equivalence, reliability, and participant preferences are examined, and future research is suggested. (40 references) (LRW)

Peer reviewedZumbo, Bruno D.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1992
An error in an essential equation within the article by Williams and Zimmerman is corrected, and the algebraic inequalities are translated into questions a researcher can ask about simple or residualized difference scores. Williams and Zimmerman acknowledge the error and note that main conclusions are not affected. (SLD)

Peer reviewedWagner, Edwin E.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1990
Maximized correlation as an internal reliability estimate for tests with few items was investigated. An actual sampling distribution of maximum correlation--"r" max--was empirically derived from 100 samples of 50 cases each from Rorschach test data and compared with those of alpha and an odd/even split, using 2,020 Rorschach protocols.…

Strauss, Gregory P.; Allen, Daniel N.; Jorgensen, Melinda L.; Cramer, Stacey L. – Assessment, 2005
Previous studies have examined the reliability of scores derived from various Stroop tasks. However, few studies have compared reliability of more recently developed Stroop variants such as emotional Stroop tasks to standard versions of the Stroop. The current study developed four different single-stimulus Stroop tasks and compared test-retest…

Research Findings: Few rating scales measure social competence in very young Spanish or Catalan children. We aimed to analyze the psychometric characteristics of the California Preschool Social Competence Scale (CPSCS) when applied to a Spanish- and Catalan-speaking population. Children were rated by their respective teachers within 6 months…

Willson, Victor L. – 1977
A major deficiency in classical test theory is the reliance on Pearson product-moment (PPM) correlation concepts in the definition of reliability. PPM measures are totally insensitive to first moment differences in tests which leads to the dubious assumption of essential tan-equivalence. Robinson proposed a measure of agreement that is sensitive…

Reckase, Mark D. – 1981
Definition of the issues to the use of latent trait models, specifically one- and three-parameter logistic models, in conjunction with multi-level achievement batteries, forms the basis of this paper. Research results related to these issues are also documented in an attempt to provide a rational basis for model selection. The application of the…

Peer reviewedRubin, Donald B.; Thayer, Dorothy – Psychometrika, 1978
A procedure is developed for estimating correlations among new tests when non-overlapping sub-samples each are administered a different new test and all sub-samples are administered a set of standard tests. (JKS)

Peer reviewedRaju, Nambury S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A rederivation of Lord's formula for estimating variance in multiple matrix sampling is presented as well as the ways Cronbach's coefficient alpha and the Spearman-Brown prophecy formula are related in this context. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedHundleby, John D.; Ross, Brian E. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1977
Inmates were administered the revised Activity Preference Questionnaire, the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16 PF), the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI), the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), the Sensation-Seeking Scale, and the Personal Opinion Study. Inspection of correlations and factors associated with indices…

Peer reviewedClark, David A.; Bolton, Derek – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and Allied Disciplines, 1985
The Leyton Obsessional Inventory and the Maudsley Obsessional Compulsive Inventory were administered to 11 obsessive-compulsive adolescents and 10 anxious non-obsessional patients. Obsessional adolescents scored significantly higher than controls on the Maudsley total score and checking factors alone. (Author/RH)

Peer reviewedFleenor, John – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1986
Reviews the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire and the Personal Career Development Profile as tools for vocational exploration and career development. Reliability and validity problems are reported, followed by a recommendation to use the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory instead. (ABB)

Peer reviewedJohnson, D. Lamont; Shinedling, Martin M. – Psychological Reports, 1974
An investigation of three intelligence tests reveals that the Slosson shows signs of becoming a legitimate substitute for other intelligence tests, while the Columbia yielded erratic results for the mentally retarded participants in this study. (Author/KM)

Examined the factor structure and subscale reliabilities of an eight-dimensional measure of fear of death (the Multidimensional Fear of Death Scale) using a New Zealand sample. Comparison with the results of a United States study showed that both the subscale reliabilities and the factor structure were almost perfectly reproduced. (Author)
