Assessing the Impact of a Digital Declutter for Media Literacy
Kristin L. Fitzsimmons1
Communication Teacher, v39 n2 p89-93 2025
This activity challenges students to establish media usage rules for a 30-day digital declutter, during which time they challenge themselves to disengage from distracting digital media. Students write self-assessments about their media habits and relationship to media before beginning the declutter and after they have finished the 30-day challenge. Courses: Media Literacy, Introduction to Media Studies, Information and Digital Literacy. Objectives: Students will (1) gain an awareness of their day-to-day media use and their participation in the attention economy; (2) build habits of media mindfulness; and (3) assess how media usage habits play a role in time and focus management.
