Peer reviewedBrooks, Terrence A. – Library and Information Science Research, An International Journal, 1984
Two sophisticated--autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA), straight-line regression--and two naive--simple average, monthly average--forecasting techniques were used to forecast monthly circulation totals of 34 public libraries. Comparisons of forecasts and actual totals revealed that ARIMA and monthly average methods had smallest mean…

Peer reviewedHeim, A. W.; And Others – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1972
GCE O-and A-level examinations were correlated with the AH6 AG test scores obtained a year earlier. Results suggest that the predictive value of AH6 for success in individual subjects is almost as high as when the examinations and testing were taken within a few weeks of each other. (Authors/CB)

Peer reviewedKaufman, Alan S.; Kaufman, Nadeen L. – Child Development, 1972
Results offer empirical support to Ilg and Ames's claim that the Gesell battery is an excellent predictor of school readiness. The close similarity of the Piaget and Gesell tests accords well with previous findings that the two tests have much in common. (Authors/MB)

Peer reviewedGuthrie, John T. – Journal of Educational Research, 1972
Results of stepwise regression analyses of text characteristics on learning scores revealed that the same characteristics which predict comprehension also predict new learning. (Author/MB)

Peer reviewedLin, Y.; McKeachie, W. J. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1973
Three studies of prediction of academic achievement in introductory psychology courses are reported. The Achiever Personality scale of Fricke's Opinion, Attitude and Interest Survey and Brown and Holtzman's Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes made independent contributions beyond intelligence in the prediction of course grades in two of these…

Peer reviewedChissom, Brad S.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1972
Factors seem to indicate that the OQS could be effectively substituted for the NTE as a screening measure for graduate students in education. The D-48 was not added to the prediction equation, since it made a negligible contribution to the total prediction. (Authors/CB)

Peer reviewedPoole, Millicent E. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1972
In distinguishing the characteristics of message systems, it was found that middle-class messages were generally more difficult to predict while working-class systems were more predictable and stereotyped. (Author/MB)

Peer reviewedHeim, A. W.; Watts, K. P. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1972
On test AH6 AG, the total score can be broken down into a verbal and a numerical-plus-diagrammatic subscore; results showed the test to be a good predictor of all-round scholastic ability. (Authors/SP)

Peer reviewedTague, Jean; Ajiferuke, Isola – Journal of Documentation, 1987
Two models of library circulation, the Markov model and the mixed Poisson Model, are applied to circulation statistics from the University of Saskatchewan. Goodness-of-fit tests indicate that neither model fits the data; in both cases, the set of noncirculating items is larger than that predicted by the model. (Author/LRW)

Anderson, Gene M. – Currents, 1986
The effectiveness of gift range tables for capital campaign planning is discussed. The gift range table provides a rule of thumb concerning how many gifts are needed at each range of giving to ensure a campaign's success. Feasibility studies are discussed. (MLW)

Blake, R. John; Robertson, Leon B. – 1975
An accurate forecast of the student demand by level on the academic departments of an institution is vital for budget and financial planning decisions, for faculty workload scheduling, and for physical facility planning. Many methods have been used to forecast this demand, ranging from "seat of your pants" guessing to highly complex…

Coplin, William D.; O'Leary, Michael K. – 1983
This package introduces college students to the kind of analysis that multinational corporations undertake to assess risks to their business operations due to political and economic conditions. Designed to be completed in 3 weeks, the four exercises enable students to (1) identify the major sources of political risk; (2) determine what social,…

Peer reviewedPost, Richard – TechTrends, 1987
Describes results of survey of media service directors at public universities in Ohio to determine the expected longevity of audiovisual equipment. Use of the Delphi technique for estimates is explained, results are compared with an earlier survey done in 1977, and use of spreadsheet software to calculate depreciation is discussed. (LRW)

Peer reviewedKingma, J.; Koops, W. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1983
Reports study which compared the value of Piagetian tasks--seriation, conservation and multiple classification--to that of traditional intelligence tests--Cattell and PMA 5 to 7 subtests--as predictors of number language, simple computation, and verbal arithmetic achievement in 312 children from kindergarten to grade 4. Fifty references are…
