Parkavi, A.; Lakshmi, K.; Srinivasa, K. G. – Educational Research and Reviews, 2017
Data analysis techniques can be used to analyze the pattern of data in different fields. Based on the analysis' results, it is recommended that suggestions be provided to decision making authorities. The data mining techniques can be used in educational domain to improve the outcome of the educational sectors. The authors carried out this research…

Kartal, Ozgul; Dunya, Beyza Aksu; Diefes-Dux, Heidi A.; Zawojewski, Judith S. – International Journal of Research in Education and Science, 2016
Critical to many science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) career paths is mathematical modeling--specifically, the creation and adaptation of mathematical models to solve problems in complex settings. Conventional standardized measures of mathematics achievement are not structured to directly assess this type of mathematical…

Tate, Richard L. – Florida Journal of Educational Research, 1988
An exploratory study of the value of ridge regression for interactive models is reported. Assuming that the linear terms in a simple interactive model are centered to eliminate non-essential multicollinearity, a variety of common models, representing both ordinal and disordinal interactions, are shown to have "orientations" that are…

Perlman, Carole L. – 1983
The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the use of tobit analysis and tobit decomposition in educational research. Tobit estimates of growth rate in the presence of a ceiling effect were compared with ordinary least squares (OLS) and weighted least squares (WLS) estimates. The tobit estimates had the smallest standard error, the smallest bias,…

Clogg, Clifford C.; And Others – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1992
Methods for assessing collapsibility in regression problems are described, including possible extensions to the class of generalized linear models. These procedures, with terminology borrowed from the contingency table field, can be used in experimental settings or nonexperimental settings where two models viewed as alternative explanations are…

Rowell, R. Kevin – 1991
This paper explains how commonality analysis (CA) can be conducted using a specific Statistical Analysis System (SAS) procedure and some simple computations. CA is used in educational and social science research to partition the variance of a dependent variable into its constituent predicted parts. CA determines the proportion of explained…

Wu, Yow-wu B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The present study compares the robustness of two different one way fixed-effects analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) models to investigate whether the model which uses a test statistic incorporating estimates of separate unequal regression slopes is more robust than the conventional model which assumes the slopes are equal. Rogers, H. Jane; Swaminathan, Hariharan – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1993
Performance of the logistic regression (LR) procedure was compared to that of the Mantel Haenszel (MH) procedure in the detection of uniform and nonuniform differential item functioning on a simulation examining distributional properties of the LR and MH test statistics and the relative power of the two procedures. (SLD)

Thayer, Jerome D. – 1986
The stepwise regression method of selecting predictors for computer assisted multiple regression analysis was compared with forward, backward, and best subsets regression, using 16 data sets. The results indicated the stepwise method was preferred because of its practical nature, when the models chosen by different selection methods were similar…

Spires, Eric E. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
The use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in assisting researchers to analyze decisions is discussed. The AHP is compared with other decision-analysis techniques, including multiattribute utility measurement, conjoint analysis, and general linear models. Insights that AHP can provide are illustrated with data gathered in an auditing context.…

Piesse, Andrea; Rust, Keith – National Center for Education Statistics, 2003
The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is a large international comparative study of the reading literacy of young students. The student population for the U.S. 2001 PIRLS (hereafter simply referred to as PIRLS) was the set of all fourth-graders in the United States, corresponding to the grade in which the highest proportion…

Kreft, Ita G. G.; And Others – 1990
An overview is given of the available statistical theory and software for analyzing hierarchically nested data. Programs are evaluated, and general techniques are proposed to analyze data from several domains. This research is part of a larger project to evaluate elementary education in the Netherlands. The models discussed are the random…

Swaminathan, Hariharan; Rogers, H. Jane – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
A logistic regression model for characterizing differential item functioning (DIF) between two groups is presented. A distinction is drawn between uniform and nonuniform DIF in terms of model parameters. A statistic for testing the hypotheses of no DIF is developed, and simulation studies compare it with the Mantel-Haenszel procedure. (Author/TJH)

Tague, Jean; Ajiferuke, Isola – Journal of Documentation, 1987
Two models of library circulation, the Markov model and the mixed Poisson Model, are applied to circulation statistics from the University of Saskatchewan. Goodness-of-fit tests indicate that neither model fits the data; in both cases, the set of noncirculating items is larger than that predicted by the model. (Author/LRW)

Sparks, Ross S.; Ballantyne, Roy – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1990
Two models are presented to compare trainee and expert assessment strategies. The use of these procedures in assessment training programs is illustrated in a study of 5 postgraduate students in an environmental education course who were required to rate the work of 20 students. (SLD)
