Compared the WISC-R Verbal-Performance IQ discrepancies of learning-disabled children and of the normative sample. It was concluded that without clinical evidence to suggest otherwise, it cannot be assumed automatically that a child's discrepancy score, unless of extreme magnitude, is related to the learning disability itself. Paper explores the use of an intelligence test in a southwestern university. Honor students performed significantly better than the average freshmen and the developmental/remedial students. Results suggest that developmental students lack specific cognitive abilities as well as some higher order thinking skills. Implications are discussed. (RJM)
