Pandey, Tej N. – 1975
Standard errors of pooled mean estimate in multiple matrix sampling were compared for two procedures. The data were from tests involving items with and without replacement. The two procedures involve the formulations of Madow and Lord, and Novick; the former permits sampling of item, with or without replacement, whereas the latter is to be used…

De Ayala, R. J.; Hertzog, Melody A. – 1989
This study was undertaken to compare non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) and factor analysis (FA) as means of assessing dimensionality in relation to item response theory (IRT). FA assesses correlation matrices, while MDS performs an analysis of proximity measures. Seven data sets were generated; each differed from the others with respect to…

Peer reviewedTang, K. Linda; Algina, James – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1993
Type I error rates of four multivariate tests (Pilai-Bartlett trace, Johansen's test, James' first-order test, and James' second-order test) were compared for heterogeneous covariance matrices in 360 simulated experiments. The superior performance of Johansen's test and James' second-order test is discussed. (SLD)

Edwards, Lynne K. – 1990
One of the most frequently used research methods in education and psychology involves repeated observations on the same individuals. When sample sizes are relatively small and a multivariate analysis lacks power, there are currently two analytical options in testing time effects. One is to assume a time series structure to these observations, and…
