The exploratory data analysis method of median polishing was used to examine patterns of differences in male and female performance on the Graduate Record Examination quantitative and analytical tests. Males were found overall to outperform females on the quantitative measure but not on the analytical measure. (Author/MLW)

The hypothesis of a direct link between institutional pay scales and faculty sex ratios is examined based on HEGIS and AAUP data. The impact of college on critical thinking ability was studied. Freshmen and seniors at a mideastern university were given either a general instruction or multiple specific instructions for critically evaluating one of two articles.
