Noland, Ramona M. – Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2009
Reliable and valid assessment of individuals who are English language learners (ELL) has presented a dilemma to psychologists, and school psychologists in particular, as it is complicated by the small number of professionals qualified to serve as bilingual examiners. Some psychologists use ancillary examiners during testing when no bilingual…

Peer reviewedRatcliffe, Melanie Walton; Ratcliffe, Kevin J. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
Compared the WISC-R and Leiter International Performance Scale IQs for a sample of educationally handicapped adolescents. Peer reviewedSolly, David C. – Journal of School Psychology, 1977
Although authors have varied opinions, it is the general concensus that the WISC-R is superior to the WISC. This author concurs. However, serious consideration should be given to the research findings before the WISC-R is substituted freely for the WISC as a criterion for special education placement. (Author)

Peer reviewedBloom, Allan S.; Raskin, Larry M. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1980
Compared the WISC-R Verbal-Performance IQ discrepancies of learning-disabled children and of the normative sample. It was concluded that without clinical evidence to suggest otherwise, it cannot be assumed automatically that a child's discrepancy score, unless of extreme magnitude, is related to the learning disability itself. So as to compare predicted achievement based upon WISC-R IQs and observed achievement by the WRAT standard scores, both instruments were administered by the same school psychologist to 282 urban students referred for psychological evaluation. The correlations obtained were substantial. (Author)

Peer reviewedSwerdlik, Mark E. – Psychology in the Schools, 1977
The paper reviews WISC/WISC-R comparison studies which have been conducted with a wide variety of samples. Caution is advised in the interpretation of a WISC/WISC-R difference, as a discrepancy of one SD may not be meaningful. (Author)
