This learning activity package is designed to help apprentices understand some of the different ways in which words can be used to mean different things, depending on where and when one uses the words. It provides examples of words and phrases that are used in the workplace in ways different from the way they are used in regular conversation. Five units address these topics: (1) idioms and cliches; (2) words used in the trades; (3) what did he say?; (4) the workplace in the United States; and (5) more help for apprentices. Each unit contains some or all of these components: objectives, considerations to think about while the learner completes the unit, informational material, activity or activities, and considerations to think about when the learner completes the unit.
