Jenks, Kathleen M.; de Moor, Jan; van Lieshout, Ernest C. D. M. – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2009
Background: Although it is believed that children with cerebral palsy are at high risk for learning difficulties and arithmetic difficulties in particular, few studies have investigated this issue. Methods: Arithmetic ability was longitudinally assessed in children with cerebral palsy in special (n = 41) and mainstream education (n = 16) and…

Dorethy, Rex E. – 1972
Evidence presented by psychologists has indicated that perceptual development results in part from learned experience and may be modified to varying deqrees by social pressure. Since vision is a primary source of perceptual information for art education, this study sought to determine the effects of prophecy, or expectation, on perceptual response…

Peer reviewedRoth, James D.; Kosslyn, Stephen M. – Cognitive Psychology, 1988
Two experiments (N=36) using a new, objective methodology for measuring relative image generation time demonstrate that images of three-dimensional objects evolve a part at a time. It also appears that the images are generated in a near-to-far sequence. Results are discussed in terms of computational and ecological considerations. (TJH)

Peer reviewedFagen, Jeffrey W.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1976
The ability of 3-month-old infants to discriminate novel components of a pre-familiarized stimulus was assessed using an operant paradigm. Subjects were 20 infants; adult judgments were taken from 15 college students. (Author/JH)

Laughery, Kenneth R.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1973
The work reported in this study attempts to further isolate the place of two codes of information, visual and acoustic. (Author/RK)

Peer reviewedCohen, Asher; Shoup, Rachel – Cognitive Psychology, 1997
Experiments involving a total of 114 college students from Indiana and Israel demonstrate that the initial analysis of visual objects into features from different dimensions strongly constrains postperceptual processes of response selection. A model of response selection is proposed to account for the findings. (SLD)

Peer reviewedGilden, David; And Others – Cognitive Psychology, 1995
Two experiments with 11 college students demonstrate the influence of their prior visual adaptation to motion on the imagined speed of an imaginary moving object. Results suggest that imagined motion and real vision may engage common neural mechanisms without being functionally equivalent. (SLD)

Chastain, Garvin; And Others – 1987
Butler (1980) compared errors representing intrusions and mislocalizations on 3x3 letter displays under pattern-mask versus no-mask conditions and found that pattern masking increased character mislocalization errors (naming a character in the display but not in the target position as being the target) over intrusion errors (naming a character not…

Marmor, Gloria Strauss – 1977
The relationship between age of onset of blindness and development of knowledge of color relations was examined with 16 college students who had been born totally blind, 16 who had been blinded totally at approximately 15 years of age, and 16 who had normal vision. Ss were asked to judge the similarities between color names, and judgments were…

Peer reviewedEggen, Paul; And Others – Journal of Educational Research, 1978
In a study involving the reading of bar graphs it was found that students in the control group (who did not receive generalization cues) did significantly better than those in the experimental group. (Ed.)
