Anastasi, Anne – 1990
The complexity and rapid expansion of the entire field of psychology make it appropriate to speak of "psychologies" when acknowledging the need for specialization of training and expertise. Nevertheless, unifying trends (UTs) exist in psychology, even though there can be no single set of theoretical principles to account for all empirical…

Glucksberg, Sam – 1985
Cognitive aging research needs to clarify whether or not there are functional or ability declines with aging and, if so, to understand and mediate these declines. Recent research which has demonstrated declines in cognitive functioning with age has involved episodic memory and rehearsal-independent forms of such memory. It is not known how much of…

Biemiller, Andrew – 1981
Cognitive development during each of the major stages identified by Piaget is characterized by abilities to solve progressively more complex tasks (e.g., changes in the object concept during the sensori-motor stage, and in conservation of amount, weight, and volume during the concrete operational stage). Several theorists have suggested that these…

Masson, Michael E. J. – 1978
A battery of memory tests was administered to 243 male university students. Factor analysis with oblique rotation of factors revealed five factors: (1) associative memory (particularly important in paired-associate tests), (2) short-term visual memory (the ability to derive information from briefly presented visual displays), (3) meaningful memory…

Dilling, Richard A.; And Others – 1976
This study attempts to raise and answer the question as to whether lateral specialization of the brain could explain some of the differences in persons at different stages of intellectual development from birth to adulthood according to Piaget's theory of individual development via sequential, qualitatively different stages.…

Peer reviewedLunneborg, Clifford E. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1977
Three studies are described in which choice reaction time (RT) was related to such psychometric ability measures as verbal comprehension, numerical reasoning, hidden figures, and progressive matrices tests. Fairly consistent negative correlations were found between these tests and choice RT when high school samples were used. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedEnright, Robert D.; And Others – Counseling Psychologist, 1977
This paper focuses on a cross-age intervention program in which sixth graders led discussion groups with first graders using Selman's (1974) levels of interpersonal conceptions as the content area. Presented at the American Psychological Association, Chicago, 1975. (Author)

Magolda, Marcia B. Baxter – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1987
Comparison of a standardized production format measure, the Measure of Epistemological Reflection and an open-ended interview resulted in a high positive correlation to support the potential of standardized assessment of intellectual development. (Author/KS)

Peer reviewedDelis, Dean C.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1988
Explored validity of new clinical test of verbal memory incorporating constructs from normal and pathological memory research, to quantify the ways examinees learn verbal material. Factor analyses of normal subjects and neurological patients indicated that verbal memory consisted of a number of component factors, reflecting learning strategy,…

Peer reviewedSmall, Arnold; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Studied weight-gain 127 primary anorexics by examining the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale and the Rorschach for indices that may predict improvement. Results showed that cognitive-focusing skills, measured by the Wechsler, account for roughly half of the variance and were good predictors of weight gain. (WAS)
