Corman, Louise; Budoff, Milton – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1974
Descriptors: Children, Cognitive Processes, Comparative Analysis, Cultural Background
Smith, Douglas K.; And Others – 1987
This study investigates the validity of the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition (S-B:4) for use with students with learning disabilities. It compares the performance of 18 elementary-age students on the S-B:4 and the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC). The subjects were identified by their school as having learning…

Brown, Scott W.; Yakimowski, Mary E. – 1984
The purpose of this study was to replicate previous factor analytical studies of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) employing children identified as gifted. However, rather than using the IQ criterion, a child's 11 WISC-R subtest scores were included in the analysis. Subsamples of gifted (as classified by local school…

CORTER, HAROLD M.; MCKINNEY, JAMES D. – 1966
THE MAJOR PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO DEVELOP A COGNITIVE TRAINING PROGRAM DESIGNED TO INCREASE MENTALLY RETARDED AND NORMAL SUBJECTS' PERFORMANCES ON FLEXIBILITY-TYPE TASKS AND GENERAL INTELLIGENCE TESTS. A TEST BATTERY OF FIVE TESTS (STENCIL DESIGN, EMBEDDED FIGURES, PICTURE ANOMALIES, OBJECT SORTING, AND TELL ABOUT THIS), DESIGNED TO MEASURE…

Young, Aaron Ross, Jr. – 1976
This study attempted to prove a dichotomy between cognitive processes as measured by Piagetian reasoning tasks and those measured by traditional intelligence tests. A battery of tests (Slosson Intelligence Test, Durrell's Silent Reading and Listening Comprehension Test, Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices, and the Piagetian Measure of Cognitive…

White, Margaret B.; Hall, Alfred E. – Educational Horizons, 1980
This article briefly traces the development of intelligence testing from its beginnings in 1905 with Alfred Binet; cites the intelligence theories of Spearman, Thurstone, and Guilford; and examines current objections to intelligence tests in terms of what they test and how they are interpreted. Sinatra, Richard – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1989
Fourteen teenage or young adult males disabled in print acquisition were studied to determine their patterns of verbal and spatial processing. It was found that, at retest a mean of 5.4 years later, the Similarities score significantly increased while the Vocabulary scores and Acquired Knowledge category actually decreased. (Author/DB)

Ceci, Stephen J. – Intelligence, 1990
The assumption that a singular biological resource pool embedded in the central nervous system results in differences in macrolevel outcomes because of the constraints it imposes on efficiencies of microlevel processing is refuted. Moderating effects on the causal pathways between microlevel and macrolevel performance are discussed. (SLD)

Dillon, Ronna F. – 1998
The importance of dynamic testing procedures for understanding reasoning and its underlying cognitive processes as well as for increasing validity is investigated. An experiment tested the premise that African American and White college students demonstrate equivalent inductive reasoning ability when tested under induced mediation procedures,…

Boretz, Harold F.; And Others – 1984
Previous studies indicate increasing, significant univariate and multivariate correlation between reaction time (RT) tasks and intelligence. Using multiple regression analyses, data from an earlier study by Brown and Boretz were reanalyzed to further investigate the relationship between the speed at which an individual is able to process stimuli…

McCorkle, Sarapage; Cohen, Margaret W. – 1988
This study was designed to test the hypothesis that relatively field independent students will perform at a significantly higher level than relatively field dependent students in college-level, introductory economics courses. Previous studies focused on comparative pedagogies, or an examination of the student variables of gender, ability,…

Stankov, Lazar – Intelligence, 1986
In an effort to improve performance of high school students on intelligence tests, a large-scale study involving 296 Yugoslavian students was carried out by Radivoy Kvashchev. Results indicate that it is possible to achieve small improvement and that improvement remains a year after the end of training. (Author/LMO)

Valencia, Richard R.; Rankin, Richard J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1986
Factor analyses of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) were performed on separate groups of Anglo (n=100) and Mexican-American (n=100) fifth-grade children to determine the comparability of underlying structures and to examine the existence of possible bias in construct validity of the K-ABC for each group.
