Housner, Lynn Dale – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1984
This study investigated the role of imagery in the short-term retention of complex, visually presented movement sequences. Findings suggest that visual imagery may play a functional role in the free recall of modeled movements; however, there was no indication that imagery was involved in the retention of serial information. Baddeley, Alan – Visible Language, 1984
Outlines the concept of working memory, with particular reference to a hypothetical subcomponent, the articulatory loop. Discusses the role of the loop in fluent adult reading, then examines the reading performance of adults with deficits in auditory verbal memory, showing that a capacity to articulate is not necessary for the effective…

Rice, Mabel – Western Journal of Speech Communication, 1984
Suggests that there are no sharp distinctions among children's linguistic comprehension, production, and knowledge. Instead, all performance and understanding are embedded in a fluctuating, interrelated thought system. (PD)

Jenkinson, Josephine C. – Intelligence, 1983
Speed of information processing was examined in relation to fluid and crystallized intelligence in sixth graders. Reaction time parameters (except slope) were negatively correlated with scores on intelligence tasks. Partial correlations failed to support any causal relationship between fluid and crystallized intelligence in either direction.…

Kosslyn, Stephen Michael – Child Development, 1976
This is a developmental study of the effects, and role, of imagery in retrieving information from long-term memory. In two blocks of trails, first graders, fourth graders and adults determined whether or not various animals are characterized by various properties, first upon consultation of a visual image and then without imagery. Gentner, Donald R. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
Describes a study of the recall of narrative prose. Serial structure at first influenced which elements were remembered, but as the Ss remembered more, the story grammar structure became the dominant influence over the elements remembered. (Author/RM)

Manelis, Leon – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1976
Three experiments investigated a characteristic of the propositions that underlie sentences. For some of the sentences tested, the same concepts occurred repeatedly across the underlying propositions; for others, concepts were seldom repeated. Repetitions were shown to facilitate sentence processing. (Author/RM)

Ferguson, Robert P.; Bray, Norman W. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1976
The locus of facilitation due to rehearsal was investigated in three experiments with first-grade children. Several difference overt acquisition strategies in a four-item sequential memory task were compared, including ordered repetition, item repetition, item labeling, and free strategy conditions. Lampel, Anita K. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1973
Results indicated that the nature of a memory unit does not change with age, that memory improves with age, and that separate visual and verbal memories are operative in Ss in this age range. (Author)

Jones, Helen R. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1973
Results indicated that the combined visual-verbal study materials produced performance superior to visual materials alone, which in turn were superior to verbal materials alone. (Author)

Harris, Richard J.; Brewer, William F. – Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 1973
Based in part on an M.A. thesis presented to the University of Illinois by Mr. Harris; deixis refers to those words which have a demonstrative or pointing function, e.g., the pronouns this'' or that''. (DD)

Paper sets out an attempt to use the changes in implicit associative responses resulting from semantic constraints to examine some features of the associative network aroused by the perception of a complete sentence. (Author)
