Griffith, Belver C. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1981
Summarizes the key research issues and developments in cognitive science, especially with respect to the similarities, differences, and interrelationships between human and machine information processing. Nine references are listed. (JL)

Barclay, Craig R.; Newell, Karl M. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1980
Results confirmed that children differentially use knowledge of results and suggested that any description of motor skill acquisition must account for the complex interaction between developmental level and the difficulty of the task at hand. (Author/DB)

Svenson, Ola; And Others – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1976
In this study retrospective verbal reports were collected in order to study cognitive processes activated when solving simple additions. The research was devoted to a revision and validation of the earlier presented process model (Svenson 1975) by using retrospective verbal reports as a complement to the response latencies analyzed earlier.…

Greer, Brian, Ed.; Verschaffel, Lieven, Ed. – International Journal of Educational Research, 1990
Five papers discuss the current and potential contributions of information-processing theory to our understanding of mathematical thinking as those contributions affect the practice of mathematics education. It is concluded that information-processing theories need to be supplemented in various ways to more adequately reflect the complexity of…

Dulaney, Cynthia L.; And Others – Intelligence, 1994
Intelligence-related differences in perceptual processing in a global/local task were studied for 19 mentally retarded high school students and 19 nonretarded college students. Both groups processed global information faster than local information, and local naming practice caused increases in local processing time. (SLD)

Hartman, Carol R.; Burgess, Ann W. – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1993
This paper presents a neuropsychosocial model of information processing to explain a victimization experience, specifically child sexual abuse. It surveys the relation of sensation, perception, and cognition as a systematic way to provide a framework for studying human behavior and describing human response to traumatic events. (Author/JDD)

Nanez, Jose E.; Padilla, Raymond V. – Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, 1993
A study of simple reaction time (SRT) and choice reaction time (CRT) in 71 Chicano adolescents suggests that Hick's model is appropriate for studying cognitive information processing in Chicanos. No age or sex differences were found for SRT or CRT, although there were some differences in SRT by family income level. (KS)

Huang, Li-Ning – Journal of Communication, 2000
Investigates how 4 different information-processing goals, varying on the dimensions of effortful versus effortless and impression-driven versus non-impression-driven processing, and individual difference in political sophistication affect the depth at which undergraduate students process candidate information and their decision-making strategies.…

Sibley, Benjamin A.; Etnier, Jennifer L. – Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 2004
Attention is a term that has been used to describe a broad range of topics in the sport and exercise literature (Nougier, Stein, & Bonnel, 1991). Research focusing on attention has included studies on selectivity, concentration, mental set, visual search, arousal, and information processing (Abernethy, 2001), and a variety of techniques (e.g.,…

Grubar, Jean-Claude; And Others – 1996
Based on the hypothesis that cognition and sleep are linked, this study compared the sleep patterns of nine children (ages 6-16) with autism with those of children with mental retardation and no disabilities. The children with autism were observed for two consecutive nights at a laboratory where their sleep patterns were recorded. Results found…
