This study aimed to understand the effect of task motivation on online group creative performance and interpersonal interaction. Browning, Catherine A.; Harris, Celia B.; Van Bergen, Penny – Discourse Processes: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2019
Prospective memory (PM) performance suffers when individuals collaborate, consistent with findings of "collaborative inhibition" in episodic recall. However, prior research indicates strong individual differences, such that some collaborative groups are more effective than others. To identify successful and unsuccessful collaborative…

Rico, Ramon; Sanchez-Manzanares, Miriam; Antino, Mirko; Lau, Dora – Journal of Applied Psychology, 2012
This study tests whether the detrimental effects of strong diversity faultlines on team performance can be counteracted by combining 2 managerial strategies: task role crosscutting and superordinate goals. We conducted a 2 (crosscut vs. aligned roles) x 2 (superordinate vs. subgroup goals) experimental study. Seventy-two 4-person teams with…

Stull, Andrew T.; Hegarty, Mary; Dixon, Bonnie; Stieff, Mike – Cognition and Instruction, 2012
In representation-rich domains such as organic chemistry, students must be facile and accurate when translating between different 2D representations, such as diagrams. We hypothesized that translating between organic chemistry diagrams would be more accurate when concrete models were used because difficult mental processes could be augmented by…

Peer reviewedSaljo, Roger; Wyndhamn, Jan – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1988
The contextual determination of cognitive activities was investigated in a primary school naturalistic experiment. Performance at a group level on an elementary arithmetic task is influenced by the immediate context. Use of analogies as heuristic aids and the functional meaning of the task as a pedagogical praxis are assessed. (TJH)
