Tajfel, Henri – J Soc Issues, 1969
This paper is a slightly revised version of a contribution to a symposium on the "Biosocial Aspects of Race," held in London, September, 1968; symposium was published in the "Journal of Biosocial Science," Supplement No. 1, July, 1969. (RJ)

Day, H. D.; Hollingsworth, Shirley – Journal of Educational Research, 1983
Researchers investigated the effects of sex differences on the relationship between conservation ability and the reading and linguistic awareness of five-year-old children. Findings of this study and others consistently support the hypothesis that conservation ability correlates more highly with reading in girls than in boys. (Author/PP)

Mackie, Diane – Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, 1983
The performance of 114 New Zealand children of European and Polynesian descent on spatial relations tasks was examined, following their interaction with another child of either the same or different cognitive level. Nonconservers were found to benefit from interaction relative to no interaction more than were partial conservers. (AOS)

Whitson, George T.; Hogan, John D. – Reading Improvement, 1983
Concludes that J. Piaget's cognitive developmental theory may be used as a framework to understand reading in all children, while visual perception showed no relationship to any measure of reading. (FL)

Phillips, John L., Jr. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1982
Piaget's theories of cognitive development are applied to the college student and suggestions are given for helping students at different developmental stages. It is proposed that teachers provide experiences that promote cognitive conflict as a means of moving students into new stages. (MSE)

Kidder, F. Richard; Lamb, Charles E. – Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, 1981
Two studies dealing with length conservation and measurement indicate that caution needs to be used when one looks at and makes claims about children's cognitive ability and development with regard to conservation. (MP)

Scher, Anat; Olson, David R. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1982
Seven-year-olds compared successively presented oblique lines which varied as to their position within a square display and their relation to the diagonal axis of the display. Children apparently encoded lines in terms of position and axis features. They used a categorical spatial representational system to compare oblique lines. (Author/RD)

Ackerman, Brian P. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1982
Examined six- and eight-year-old children's use of contextual expectations to detect inconsistencies in story information and their ability to discriminate between information that resolved or was irrelevant to these inconsistencies. Results showed that six-year-olds frequently detected inconsistent events but that they failed to discriminate…

Butzow, John W.; Schlenker, Richard M. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1980
Described is a study which relates Piaget's theory of cognitive development to Lowenfeld's types of perceptual aptitude (i.e., visual v haptic orientation). General interpretations of questionnaire results from university students (N=312) are made that postulate a relationship linking incidence of perceptual and logical ability. (CS)

Lamberts, Frances – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1981
The perceptual-linguistic stimulus distinction for auditory stimuli was examined with 35 trainable and severely retarded (age 8 to 20) and 31 nonretarded (age 3 to 5) students. Retarded and nonretarded students performed similarly on auditory-perceptual stimuli. Nonretarded students performed significantly better than did retarded students on…

De Avila, Edward A.; Duncan, Sharon E. – NABE: The Journal for the National Association for Bilingual Education, 1979
Presented are findings from numerous studies in terms of a theory which integrates the theoretical position of Piagetian developmental psychology with the concept of the learning set proposed by Harlow. This integrated theory, called the metaset, is offered as a new approach to explaining the efforts of childhood bilingualism. (NQ)

Barclay, Craig R.; Newell, Karl M. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1980
Results confirmed that children differentially use knowledge of results and suggested that any description of motor skill acquisition must account for the complex interaction between developmental level and the difficulty of the task at hand. (Author/DB)

Henker, Barbara; And Others – Exceptional Education Quarterly: Teaching Exceptional Children to Use Cognitive Strategies, 1980
The article focuses on models of the causal ascriptive processes in relation to the education of exceptional learners. The model the authors found most useful includes four dimensions of causal attributions, i.e., causes vary in the degree to which they are internal, volitional, mutable, and predictable. (PHR)
