Following discussion of the philosophical underpinnings for values objectivity and a review of tenents of Piaget's and Kohlberg's (cognitive/moral development) theories, offers a blueprint for establishing a comprehensive values education program needed in environmental education. (JN)

Presented is an analysis of the back-to-basics movement and four areas of pedagogical concern that are fundamental to both basic education and environmental education: environmental science, inquiry, cognitive development, and bioethical development. (WB)

Working toward a definition of a developmental model, evaluated how children (N=385) perceive their natural environment by coding their responses to words "Nature is" presented to them on a piece of paper. Results are discussed in terms of age/grade levels corresponding to characteristics of literalism, organization, and moralism. (JN)
