Reddy, Linda A.; Hale, James B.; Brodzinsky, Lara K. – School Psychology Quarterly, 2011
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder, with concomitant executive function deficits often being the focus of empirical and clinical investigation. This study explored the validity of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function Parent Form (BRIEF; Gioia, Isquith, Guy, & Kenworthy, 2000) for…

Prosser, Barbara – 1991
Accurate classification in discriminant analysis and the value of prediction are discussed, with emphasis on the uses and key aspects of prediction. A brief history of discriminant analysis is provided. C. J. Huberty's discussion of four aspects of discriminant analysis (separation, discrimination, estimation, and classification) is cited.…

Peer reviewedBreckenridge, James N. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1989
A Monte Carlo study evaluated the effectiveness of three rules of classifying objects into clusters: nearest neighbor classification; nearest centroid assignment; and quadratic discriminant analysis. Results suggest that the nearest neighbor rule is a useful tool for assessing the validity of the clustering procedure of J. H. Ward (1963). (SLD)

Huberty, Carl J; Smith, Janet C. – 1982
Predictive discriminant analysis involves a technique used in multivariate classification, i.e., in predicting membership in well-defined groups for units on which multiple measures are available. The validation (assessment) of group membership predictions pertains to two problems: estimating true proportions of correct classifications (i.e., hit…

Elhai, Jon D.; Gray, Matthew J.; Naifeh, James A.; Butcher, Jimmie J.; Davis, Joanne L.; Falsetti, Sherry A.; Best, Connie L. – Assessment, 2005
The authors examined the Trauma Symptom Inventorys (TSI) ability to discriminate 88 student post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) simulators screened for genuine PTSD from 48 clinical PTSD-diagnosed outpatients. Results demonstrated between-group differences on several TSI clinical scales and the Atypical Response (ATR) validity scale.…

Rice, Kenneth G.; Ashby, Jeffrey S. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 2007
Multiple samples of university students (N = 1,537) completed the Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (APS-R; R. B. Slaney, M. Mobley, J. Trippi, J. Ashby, & D. G. Johnson, 1996). Cluster analyses, cross-validated discriminant function analyses, and receiver operating characteristic curves for sensitivity and specificity of APS-R scores were used to…

Ramsey-Klee, Diane M.; Richman, Vivian – 1975
The purpose of this research is to develop content analytic techniques capable of extracting the differentiating information in narrative performance evaluations for enlisted personnel in order to aid in the process of selecting personnel for advancement, duty assignment, training, or quality retention. Four tasks were performed. The first task…
