This booklet describes the process of desegregation in the Cleveland Public School System. It begins with chronological history of the case of Reed v. Rhodes and other milestones in the desegregation struggle in Cleveland. This is followed by a section describing the Constitutional violations that were cited as causing segregated schools, the specifics of the plan mandated by court ruling, and a discussion of implementation of the plan, particularly of the serious administrative problems that were encountered. A description of the current status of desegregation is provided featuring accomplishments as well as unfinished business. Part II consists of quoted comments from parents, teachers, administrators, and students on the issue. Part III discusses the monitoring system currently in place to oversee Cleveland desegregation.
