Peer reviewedTolkmitt, Frank J.; Brindley, Robin – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
To test the tendency of subjects to perceptually organize discrete temporal patterns with regard to runs of identical stimulus events, spatiotemporal patterns of white noise were presented for reproduction. It is suggested that changes in runs of auditory patterns are perceptually analogous to changes in contours of visual patterns. (Editor/RK)

Peer reviewedHaith, Marshall M. – Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, 1990
Focuses on investigations of infant sensation and perception over the past 25 years. Describes the knowledge base concerning the sensory and perceptual world of the infant in the mid-1960s. Methodological highlights in the study of vision and audition are covered. (RJC)

Peer reviewedRubel, Edwin W.; Rosenthal, Morton H. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Animal Behavior Processes, 1975
The experiments reported here investigated a developmental change in frequency generalization in the hatchling chicken. (Author)

Lyons-Ruth, Karlen – 1975
An experiment was performed to show that infants perceive auditory and visual stimuli within a common space and that they perceive the sound as an attribute of the visual object. Subjects were 22 infants aged 3 to 5 months. Each infant was presented with a toy that moved in a small arc from side to side of a small window at the rate of one arc per…

Kellman, Philip J.; Arterberry, Martha E. – 1998
In the past 25 years, there has been an explosion in research on the development of perception. The research has produced discoveries at multiple levels: ecological analyses, models of representation and process, and improved understanding of biological mechanisms. This book provides a comprehensive treatment of infant perception, bringing…

McGuinness, Diane – MIT Press (BK), 2005
Research on reading has tried, and failed, to account for wide disparities in reading skill even among children taught by the same method. Why do some children learn to read easily and quickly while others, in the same classroom and taught by the same teacher, don't learn to read at all? In "Language Development and Learning to Read", Diane…
