Investigation of the effects of age on the social perceptual ability of 30 learning disabled and 30 non-learning-disabled students (at ages 11, 14, and 17 years) indicated that, though social perceptual ability improved with age for both groups, the proportionate differences between the groups remained constant through age 17. The study examined the developmental lag hypothesis for learning disabilities by evaluating dichotic listening ability using both free recall and directed attention conditions in 24 learning disabled (LD) adults. A definition of dyslexia is offered that considers the nature of the processing limitation underlying the disorder as well as the developmental changes that occur in the manifestation of the disorder.
