Graduate health professions students enrolled in master of science in athletic training, master of science in occupational therapy, doctor of audiology, and doctor of physical therapy programs at a health sciences university participated in an interprofessional service-learning project called A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls (AMoB). AMoB is an 8-week evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral health education program to educate community-dwelling older adults about falls prevention. After participating as student coaches in AMoB, the students wrote reflective essays describing their experiences participating in an interprofessional service-learning project. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore health professions students' experiences as student coaches after participating as student coaches in AMoB. The secondary data sample consisted of 116 reflective essays. A phenomenological approach to this qualitative exploration allowed for principle themes to be discovered. Key findings revealed that participation in AMoB as student coaches had a generally positive influence on health professions students' perceptions of becoming future health practitioners. After participating in AMoB, student coaches expressed the importance of interprofessional collaboration in future practice. Some differences existed in experiences by students based on specific program of study. The findings presented in this study help to fill a gap in research by exploring experiences presented from the perspective of student coaches. In addition, the results of this study may be used to inform further evaluation of the interprofessional service-learning project by program administrators.
