Professional School Counseling, v29 n1a 2025
School counselors are in an excellent position to lead positive initiatives and outcomes for all students, especially those from underrepresented populations. Broaching -- the ability to explore the contextual dimensions of race, ethnicity, and culture (REC) to eliminate barriers for students -- can strengthen school counselor leadership capacity. Effective school counselors recognize that leadership and broaching efforts are inextricably bound. This conceptual article provides a theoretically and empirically supported framework that integrates and synthesizes socially just school counselor leadership practices with broaching behaviors from both an individual and systems approach.
