Research and practitioners are both at fault for failing to understand and communicate with each other. The result has been mutual animosity and a failure of research to bolster educational practice in the way it should. (Author/DS)

There is currently no way to determine whether educational benefits of arts programs are myth or reality because the learning experiences have never been verified. Art educators, instead of aiming for vague general goals, must develop specific educational objectives and undertake the research to validate them. (Author/JM)

Concludes a review (begun in this journal's previous issue) of 16 studies, currently being conducted or recently completed, of secondary education in America. Outlines the types of information that these studies can be expected to generate and comments on the probable quality, usefulness, and shortcomings of the various findings. (PGD)
