The development and use of an activity that uses the computer's unique capabilities to provide students with a relevant and highly motivating experience with the graphing of equations is outlined. A program developed by a high school freshman is presented that plots unusual graphs on the screen of a TRS-80 computer. The view promoted is that teachers of advanced mathematics should not be surprised if new ways of looking at the subject come from students interacting with computers. (MP)

On these worksheets, students are to graph pairs of linear equations and linear combinations of these pairs, using the results to discover an algebraic technique for solving a system of epuations. An introductory unit on slope, designed to give students a chance to discover some of the basic relationships between functions and slopes, is described. Programs written in BASIC for PET microcomputers were used. It is felt that students have the background to understand derivatives after experiences with this unit. (MP)
