Reader's Advisory for Net-Gen Students
Repman, Judi; Jones, Stephanie
Library Media Connection, v30 n4 p34-35 Jan-Feb 2012
Online booksellers have done a terrific job of developing ways to let customers share their opinions about books with the goal of getting a person to buy more books. They have also made effective use of the bottom line, which is what a customer spends those hard-earned dollars on, to further entice people to add one more item to their cart. In this article, the authors share non-commercial ways to do some of the same things in the school library. The reader's advisory (RA) concept, to link books with readers, hasn't changed much from the days of the card catalog. Everyone probably has some of the classic print resources about RA on their bookshelves, but these days it's easy, fun, and often free to use tools that can get students, teachers, librarians, parents, and others involved in a dynamic conversation about reading.
