The president of the faculty senate, the head of the employee union, or the president of a student organization have designated leadership positions, yet they get little formal help to prepare them to assume their roles. A leadership development plan should rest on two major goals: prestige and perspective. (MLW)

Faculty development programs are designed to improve faculty performance in all aspects of their professional lives. Six areas of concern are presented: flexibility of approach; individual v corporate activity; new understanding of scholarship; personnel management; understanding student development; and administrative leadership and support.
