Four Places to Dig Deep: To Find More Time for Teacher Collaboration
Khorsheed, Kristi
Journal of Staff Development, v28 n2 p43-45 Spr 2007
The idea of teachers working together to improve teaching and learning seems so sensible that few would argue against it. However, some schools do not provide regular and ample opportunities for teachers to collaborate on their practice mainly because they do not know how to find new ways of using existing resources, such as time and personnel. In this article, the author examines how the teachers at Garfield Elementary School in Livonia, Michigan have organized themselves into teams and have created time to work collaboratively for the last eight years. The author also presents four strategies in finding more time for teacher collaboration.
