Gorfein, David S.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
The present article reports six studies that both extend the range of conditions that produce within-list serial position effects and attempt to unravel three possible theoretical explanations for these functions. (Editor)

Strand, Bonnie Zavortink – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1975
The effect of different organizational instructions in free-recall learning on 5-7 day retention was studied in two experiments. (Editor)

Moeser, Shannon D.; Tarrant, Barbara L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Using a network of comparisons, B. Hayes-Roth and F. Hayes-Roth found that subjects performed better on adjacent than on nonadjacent comparisons. Results suggested that such networks are processed in a manner fundamentally different from simple linear arrays. Here subjects were required to learn a similar knowledge structure. These results…

Weaver, George E.; Stanny, Claudia J. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1978
In four experiments, immediate memory for sets of five sequentially presented pictorial stimuli was assessed by a two-alternative, forced-choice recognition probe. Suggests that immediate memory for pictures is determined by variables that increase or decrease processing demands, as is the case for verbal material. (Editor/RK)

Baddeley, A. D.; Patterson, K. E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Two studies investigated recognition of pictures of faces, focusing on the effects of changes in appearance of the face from presentation to test and type of processing or encoding. (Editor)

Postman, Leo; Gray, Wayne – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
The method of transfer learning was manipulated in a study of proactive inhibition. Results suggest that the joint recall of two lists during transfer increases list differentiation and reduces competition between alternative sets of responses on the retention test. (Editor/RK)

Dean, Jeffrey; Ley, Ronald – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
This research has three purposes: 1) to determine whether subjects instructed to study silently in a free-recall experiment engage in associative encoding, 2) to test the validity of associative ability as an individual difference variable, 3) to test for an interaction between presentation rate and associative reaction time. (Editor/RK)

Schulamn, Arthur I. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Recognition memory has previously been shown to be better for unusual words than for common ones. Here it is seen that this word-frequency effect is reversed for extremely rare words. (Editor)

Massaro, Dominic W. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Considers two successive stages of processing dichotic lists of items. (Author/RK)

Penney, Catherine G. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Three experiments were performed using a recognition probe procedure to test the subject's recognition of the order of two items from a dichotically presented list. (Editor)

Lawless, Harry; Engen, Trygg – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Sought to elucidate the nature of odor memory by applying paradigms from verbal learning and semantic memory and to investigate two processes affecting paired-associate performance. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Charts, Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Learning Processes
Dewar, Kathryn M.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Sequences of seven tones were presented, and recognition memory for individual tones of each sequence was tested under varying degrees of context. (Editor)
Descriptors: Auditory Stimuli, Charts, Experimental Psychology, Experiments
Shea, John B. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
Investigates the effects of verbal labels on the short-term retention of a simple motor skill. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Charts, Cues, Experimental Psychology, Experiments
Toglia, Michael P.; Kimble, Gregory A. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Memory for serial position was examined in two experiments, while a third study investigated the extent to which such information could be put to use. (Editor)

Bower, Gordon H.; Glass, Arnold L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Investigates simple line drawings as they are represented in memory, attempts to validate a particular methodology which provides evidence about such representations, and proposes a theoretical algorithm that mechanically segments and assigns a psychological representation to a set of simple (nonsense) line drawings. (Author/RK)
