Forrester, William E.; Tambs, Clifford A. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
The purpose of the present study was to directly assess the strength and stability of acoustically mediated word associations under conditions which should maximize their occurrence. (Author)
Descriptors: Acoustics, Associative Learning, Data Analysis, Experimental Psychology
Postman, Leo; Gray, Wayne – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
The method of transfer learning was manipulated in a study of proactive inhibition. Results suggest that the joint recall of two lists during transfer increases list differentiation and reduces competition between alternative sets of responses on the retention test. (Editor/RK)

Dean, Jeffrey; Ley, Ronald – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
This research has three purposes: 1) to determine whether subjects instructed to study silently in a free-recall experiment engage in associative encoding, 2) to test the validity of associative ability as an individual difference variable, 3) to test for an interaction between presentation rate and associative reaction time. (Editor/RK)

Underwood, Benton J. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Tests the theory that culturally associated words in a pair and nonassociated words in a pair differ after a single study trial in terms of their frequency representation in memory. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Associative Learning, Charts, Experimental Psychology, Experiments
Tatum, B. Charles – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1976
Tests two theoretical accounts of imagery on paired-associate learning. These two theories, differentiation theory and mediation theory, have been proposed to account for the finding that stimilus imagery/concreteness is an important variable in paired-associate learning. (Author/RK)

Warren, Robert E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
The time course of the spread of activation in lexical memory was studied using naming latency as the measure of activation in a variable-duration priming paradigm. (Editor)
