Shen, Ting; Konstantopoulos, Spyros – Journal of Experimental Education, 2022
Large-scale education data are collected via complex sampling designs that incorporate clustering and unequal probability of selection. Multilevel models are often utilized to account for clustering effects. The probability weighted approach (PWA) has been frequently used to deal with the unequal probability of selection. In this study, we examine…

Arce-Ferrer, Alvaro J.; Bulut, Okan – Journal of Experimental Education, 2019
This study investigated the performance of four widely used data-collection designs in detecting test-mode effects (i.e., computer-based versus paper-based testing). The experimental conditions included four data-collection designs, two test-administration modes, and the availability of an anchor assessment. The test-level and item-level results…

White, Glenn M.; Rosenthal, Ted L. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1974
Will a combination of lecture plus teaching demonstrations produce better learning than when equivalent information is presented through lecture alone? The present field experiment directly addressed this question. (Author)

Arney, William Ray – Journal of Experimental Education, 1973
The major thrust of this paper rests on the belief that information can be obtained from analysis of the relationship between unmeasured variables which would not otherwise be gleaned from the data. (Author)

Merryman, Edward P. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1974
The purpose of this study was to determine what effects manifest anxiety has on the achievement of selected reading variables (also tasks or skills) of children who, according to their CMAS scores, vary in general drive or anxiety levels. (Author)

Hall, Charles E. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1973
It is the intention of this paper to review the purpose, underlying assumptions, and calculation procedures and to arrive at a means of handling analysis of covariance when the classical assumptions are not met. (Author)

Katz, Barry M.; McSweeney, Maryellen – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
Errors of misclassification and their effects on categorical data analysis are discussed. The chi-square test for equality of two proportions is examined in the context of errorful categorical data. The effects of such errors are illustrated. A correction procedure is developed and discussed. (Author/MH)

Strang, Harold R.; Rust, James O. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1973
The major purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of non-cueing immediate knowledge upon answering academic questions constructed so as to minimize intrinsic knowledge of ongoing accuracy. (Author)

Ashurst, James T.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Education, 1992
Presents a method for the collection and analysis of collateral data about research subjects (i.e., measurements of events in subjects' lives that may affect outcome measures and/or lead to attrition). A six-step procedure evaluates bias resulting from subject attrition from a study using data from lost and retained subjects. (SLD)

Huck, Schuyler W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1991
This poem, with stanzas in limerick form, refers humorously to the many threats to validity posed by problems in research design, including problems of sample selection, data collection, and data analysis. (SLD)

Esposito, James – Journal of Experimental Education, 1974
The purpose of the study was to determine what relationships existed among the personality of instructional supervisors as reflected in a disbelief-belief system and measured by the Rokeach Dogmatism Scale and the tasks they performed and preferred to perform. (Editor)

Clifford, Margaret M. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1975
This study was designed to measure the effect of option on cognitive andaffective behavior and reexamine the function of locus of control as a predictor of academic performance in a situation where option-in-means is provided while option-in-ends is controlled. (Author/RK)
