Schoeneberger, Jason A. – Journal of Experimental Education, 2016
The design of research studies utilizing binary multilevel models must necessarily incorporate knowledge of multiple factors, including estimation method, variance component size, or number of predictors, in addition to sample sizes. This Monte Carlo study examined the performance of random effect binary outcome multilevel models under varying…

Peng, Chao-Ying Joanne; Long, Haiying; Abaci, Serdar – Journal of Experimental Education, 2012
Given the importance of statistical power analysis in quantitative research and the repeated emphasis on it by American Educational Research Association/American Psychological Association journals, the authors examined the reporting practice of power analysis by the quantitative studies published in 12 education/psychology journals between 2005…

Li, Jian; Lomax, Richard G. – Journal of Experimental Education, 2011
Users assume statistical software packages produce accurate results. In this article, the authors systematically examined Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Statistical Analysis System (SAS) for 3 analysis of variance (ANOVA) designs, mixed-effects ANOVA, fixed-effects analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), and nested ANOVA. For each…

Wang, Jianjun – Journal of Experimental Education, 1997
Hierarchical data analyses in different disciplines are reviewed to compare statistical application of the Hierarchical Linear Model software and the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) MIXED procedure. Similar features of the two programs are illustrated through use of the SAS MIXED procedure. (SLD)

Zimmerman, Donald W. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1987
A program obtained random samples from known populations, some of which violated the homogeneity assumption. Student t tests and Mann-Whitney U Tests were performed on the sample value. Where the t test led to incorrect decisions, the use of Mann-Whitney U test in its place led to poorer results. (JAZ)
